Bed Bugs | Blue Chip Pest Control
Below is our Bed Bugs Control Frequently Asked Questions. If you do not find the question and answer you are looking for please dont hesitate to call us and we will answer all your questions on Bed Bugs Extermination.
Are bed bugs real? Yes. Bed bugs which were once eradicated in the United States have been around in other countries. They are back because they are very adept at piggybacking onto travelers and can go around the world in less than a day.
Do only dirty people get bed bugs? Bed Bugs can be found in all types of homes and hotels. Five star hotels are just as likely to get bed bugs as a one star. The cleanliness of the hotel or home has no bearing on whether or not bed bugs will infest.
How did I get them? Most people get bed bugs from travel. When staying in a hotel or home that is infested bed bugs will invade luggage or clothing to ride home with the host. Other ways that they can get in include, house guests bringing them, or bringing in used or infested furniture.
I hear about heat treatment for bed bugs do they work? They are effective in the short term at killing bed bugs, but heat does not always eliminate 100% of the pests and without a chemical treatment they can be likely to come back. We have found that chemical treatments are the most effective overall treatment for these pests in both the short and long term.
After treatment, how long until they are completely gone? Generally the problem is mostly eliminated after the first treatment. We make a mandatory follow up part of the service to go back through the most heavily infested areas and make 100% sure that the problem is eliminated.
Can I keep my mattress after the treatment for bed bugs? If a mattress is infested with Bed Bugs, we recommend that the mattress be removed and thrown away. If that is not a practical solution, then a specific Bed Bug mattress encasement should be used on both the mattress and box springs. If the encasement is not designed for Bed Bugs, they can slip through crevices or zippers with ease. We can supply these for you at an additional charge.
What can I do to keep from getting bed bugs? Inspect your hotel room before you move your stuff in. Pull back the sheets and look at the mattress for bugs, eggs, or stains from their feces that look like rust spots. Check the headboards and nightstand drawers. Never buy or pick up a used mattress, and if necessary inspect furniture or other items brought into your home before entering.
What do I need to do to prepare for a bed bug treatment? See our what to expect page for a full breakdown of what needs to be done to prepare as well as what the service will entail.

Bed Bugs Pictures
Visitors from around the world have been sending us bed bugs pictures to help them identify their creepy crawler and over the last 6 years have accumulated an impressive collection we present some of those images below in a slideshow you can control.
You can study all the images you like and still may not find bed bugs, the trick is, knowing what signs to look for, such as the black dots on the mattress which could indicate bed bug fecal matter; they poop your blood which darkens when dried making it look like ink stains on the mattress.
LARGEST COLLECTION OF BED BUG PICTURES! Below is our slideshow of bed bug pictures from around the world. If you pause the show by clicking on a picture, youll be able to advance the filmstrip and select the thumbnail of the image you would like to view or you can just sit back and let it run, its up to you.
Another clue to look for is the sticky white rice looking material which are really eggs. Some of the best pictures of these bedbugs in their natural habitat are the four below which is exactly what you want to look for!
In this close up picture you can clearly see the whole lifecycle, from the eggs, to the bed bug shell casings, to the adult and shells.
What a cute picture of these two bed bugs living the life! The big one shed his shell while the other looks toward the eggs.
Another cure picture of bugs but the little little one appears to be shy and trying to hide. Notice the different sized shells, tells an entire story and helps give an idea of how long they have been hiding out there.
This image is a great example of what youll look for when trying to spot an infestation. Simply lift up the mattress out of the frame and if you see something that looks like this, then you need to act, and fast! Send us a photo if you do!

Bed bug encasements for mattresses and box springs
If you have bed bugs, many pest management professionals and entomologists recommend encasing your mattresses in high-quality encasements that are designed and tested to keep bed bugs in or out. If you do not yet have bed bugs, bed bugencasements may be a good preventive measure for keeping bed bugs out of your box springs and mattress.
The use of bed bug encasements is not without controversy. We are aware of several highly respected UK bed bug experts (namely Richard Naylor of the University of Sheffield and David Cain of Bed-bugs.co.uk), who dont recommend encasing mattresses. However, at this writing (8/2011), I cant think of any North American PCOs or entomologists who generally recommend against bed bug encasements.
The design of beds may play into this: keep in mind that UK beds tend not to have US-style box springs, and that box springs are notorious for harboring bed bugs. And British-style divan beds tend to have wheels attached, which makes them impossible to encase.
The argument for encasement use:
The argument against bed bug encasements:
Click the following link to read discussions tagged as being about encasements on our forums.
My own sense gathered from the input of various experts is that the vulnerability of North American-style box springs means they should be securely encased. (As youll see below, some experts recommend this be done with mattress encasements, which may be better-designed in some cases than those marketed as box spring encasements.)
And while using a mattress encasement does not prevent you from getting bed bugs in your home, if kept intact, it will keep them on the encasement surface and prevent bed bugs from harboring on and leaving fecal stains on the mattress itself and the staining in particular is something many people would like to avoid, especially on a nice or newer mattress.
If your pest management professional does recommend encasement use for your box springs and/or mattresses, make sure you are using ones which have been independently tested to keep bed bugs in or out (more on that below), make sure they are installed correctly and carefully, and inspect them regularly and carefully for tears.
On the other hand, if your pest management professional does not agree with the use of bed bug encasements, and they seem to know what theyre doing, then I would recommend you follow their protocols.

Orlando and Florida Bed Bug Inspection
IAQ Orlando & Central Florida Bed Bug Inspection Homes, Condos, Apartments, Hotels Florida & Orlando Bed Bug Inspection
A thorough inspection of the premises to locate bed bugs and their hiding spots is necessary so that cleaning efforts can be focused in the areas of infestation.
Inspection efforts should concentrate on the mattress, box springs, and bed frame, as well as crack and crevices that the bed bugs may hide in during the day or when digesting a blood meal.
The latter sites include window and door frames, floor cracks, carpet tack boards, baseboards, electrical boxes, furniture, pictures, wall hangings, drapery pleats, loosened wallpaper, cracks in plaster, and ceiling moldings. Determine whether birds or rodents are nesting on or near the house.
In hotels, apartments, and other multiple-type dwellings, it is advisable to also inspect adjoining units since bed bugs can travel long distances. Call Today and Schedule Your Orlando Bed Bug Inspection! 407-383-9459
Bed Bugs are difficult to control because they often go undetected until a severe infestation has occurred. Because bed bugs are nocturnal only coming out at night, infestations can be difficult to detect. During the day, they hide in the tightest of spaces including cracks and crevices in the walls, bed frames, behind baseboards and mattress seams. Another reason that bed bugs often go undetected is because they can hibernate for months at a time going dormant and resurfacing months later.
They are extremely resilient and can survive up to 1 year without food. Unreported bites give a false sense of control. Another reason that bed bugs are hard to control is that they travel easily. They hitch a ride on backpacks, luggage and clothing from one place to the next. Once inside a home, bed bugs can travel through wall voids spreading the infestation from room to room making control extremely difficult. They also reproduce rapidly. A female lays 10-50 eggs at a time laying up to 500 in her lifetime.
Bed bugs are very difficult to treat, and effective treatment requires a pest control professional. Herons bed bug expert has been treating bed bugs for over 15 years and has treated over 1,000 bed bug cases in the U.S.

I stayed with a friend here from 08/28/2014 - 09/01/2014 on the 5th floor. After one night my friend had been itchy, she lifted off the sheets and there was bed bugs all over the matress. W Hotel DID respond and say they have had issues in the past, however, with all of the complaints ranging in date on this website - they clearly do not have this problem under control.
