Best Bed Bug Spray Reviews: How To Kill Bed Bugs Yourself
0
Bed bug infestation can be devastating to a homeowner for a few reasons:
Many ask what the best bed bug spray is on the market, because they think these are just like ants, mosquitoes, or any other bug that you can simply spray away. Unfortunately that isnt always the case. That said, if you simply cant afford a professional bed bug treatment then your quest for how to kill bed bugs yourself should start bylooking for a quality bed bug spray.
We had a personal bed bug scare recently, when my wife started getting bumps on her ankles and arms when she woke up. Id been sleeping in the same bed, but didnt notice any bites on my side. (Although anytime we started talking about it, I randomly started to get itchy out of paranoia.)
We just had a new baby and had only been home from the hospital a couple of days, so I was concerned about my kids in particular. I called a reputable bed bug company in town and the lady was able to give me some information on what to expect.
They had 2 treatment options, one was an initial treatment with weekly follow-ups for 6 8 weeks or until all bed bugs were gone. This was going to cost around $1,500. The other was a gas that they could use in the house, while it was air sealed for 48 hours. Obviously you couldnt come in your house for 2 days, but this would kill all bed bugs and their eggs in that time frame. This treatment was going to be $2,000 $5,000 depending on the size of our house.
I was devastated!
Luckily, we figured out that my wife wasnt being bitten at all. Instead it was an allergic reaction to some medicine she had been taking.
Benadryll is much cheaper than bed bug treatments.
The EcoRaider Bed Bug Sprayis our top choice for DIYers, and astudy at Rutgers University agrees. They found that this spray was the only one tested to have a 100% mortality rate after 10 days.
In this test, the bugs were laid out in a way to where all the sprays would have an equal opportunity to kill them. The problem in real life is that bed bugs are notorious about finding their way into small crevices, inside of mattresses, and other spots where spraying them would be near impossible.
Nevertheless, if you have no money and a bed bug problem EcoRaider should be your first choice.
All Stop Dead Bed Bugs is a spray that will kill both bed bugs and their eggs on contact. One of the concerns with bed bug sprays is the toxicity of them, particularly since you are going to be applying it to your mattress. All Stop is an eco friendly product with no harmful chemicals included, so you can sleep safe.
Rest Easy Bed Bug Travel Spray is another quality option for the DIY bed bug fighter. It comes in a twin pack, with smaller spray bottles that could easily be packed away in your suitcase. As you know, bed bugs in hotels can be a big problem because of the large variety and quantity of guests staying in those rooms. Here are some tips from Purdue if you think you may have had bed bugs in your hotel room.
Rest Easy spray also promotes itself as a green product, with environmentally friendly ingredients. Here is a short list of pros and cons about using this as a bed bug solution:
Most experts agree that a true bed bug infestation requires professional assistance. But if you dont have the money, then you simply dont have the money. Youre right to be looking for the best bed bug spray as a first step, and to be thinking about other DIY solutions you can implement.
Many professionals will tell you that heat can kill bed bugs. Often if you are having an assessment done, one of the steps is to take all the linens and clothes nearby and put them in the dryer. Typically drying it on high for 10 20 minuteswill be sufficient to kill the bugs that may have been nested in those materials. Extreme cold can kill bed bugs as well, but not nearly as effectively as heat. The main reason is that they would need to be in cold temperatures for an extended period of time, which often isnt practical for a home owner.
A couple of other things to keep an eye out for are bed bug trapsand pillow protectors. Both are relatively affordable ways to mitigate your bed bug problem. There is also some other great reading material to learn more about what you can do to prevent and fight bed bugs on your own:

Bed Bug Info | Home And Natural Remedies For Bed Bugs
Most natural remedies for bedbugs, tried to date, have unfortunately proved ineffective.
There are home remedies that can help to get rid of bedbugs but we strongly suggest you opt for professional bedbug elimination.
Traditional solutions include an old wives tale that advocated smearing your bed legs with Vaseline, or petroleum jelly, to prevent bedbugs from ascending.Turpentine combined with flowers, alcohol and henna was a popular insecticide in the 18th Century and it was thought to kill bedbug eggs. Here's a fascinating contemporary account from an 18th Century newspaper about a method of getting rid of bedbugs. The smoke from peat fires was the method of choice in the mid-19th Century.
Heres an innovative, if tedious, way of keeping bedbugs at bay.
Vacate your bedroom and keep it as cold as possible by leaving windows open and turning off the heating.
Wrap a red flannel around a pocket heating pad and place it on the floor in the center of the room. Sprinkle it with bean leaves or, if you cant get these, a crushed iron supplement tablet. Also place an Alka-Seltzer on a wet sponge, near to the flannel but keep them separate. Leave this overnight.
The carbon dioxide from the Alka-Seltzer pill and the warmth from the flannel will attract bedbugs and they will gather on the flannel. In the morning, kill the critters and dispose of them (and the flannel).
Heat kills bedbugs instantly but it really does need to be hot, preferably over 110F for a sustained period. A great way to eliminate bedbugs is to box up all affected bed linen and clothes and leave this in the trunk of your car, in the full heat of the sun, for a couple of days. Clearly, this works only in the summer months or if you live in hotter climes.
Turning up the heat on your washer-dryer and using the dryer to treat bedbug infested clothing and bedding is another good option for killing bedbugs.
For those people living in colder regions, or if you need to treat an entire room, including furniture, one option is to buy or borrow two to three standalone space heaters and place them in the infested room. Leave them on full blast for 24 hours to kill bedbugs in the vicinity. Seal the room as best you can to prevent the bedbugs from escaping through gaps and cracks.
The disadvantage with this method is that bedbugs often nest in gaps below wainscoting and even in wall cavities, so some may escape your home brew furnace. (Remember to remove any personal belongings which might melt!)
Diatomaceous earth is useful against bedbugs. It's a non-toxic substance made up of the shells from diatoms found in sedimentary deposits, laid down in water millions of years ago.
Diatomaceous earth works by abrading the hard, waxy carapace of the bedbug and wearing it away.
This spells doom for the bedbug as it will be unable to keep its body moisture and will therefore dehydrate and die.
The advantage of diatomaceous earth is that it is not toxic and is a natural remedy for bedbugs, so it's particularly useful if you do not wish to use insecticides in your home.
The disadvantage is that it can be messy and impractical for domestic use and that it usually takes several days for the bedbugs to die.
The way to apply diatomaceous earth against bedbugs is to sprinkle the powder lightly in the areas infested by bedbugs, around the cracks and crevices in which bedbugs nest, which are often areas such as where skirting boards meet floors, bedheads meet walls, and around the frame of the bed, too.
Warning: diatomaceous earth may be natural but that does not mean it is harmless. In some people it can cause breathing problems and anyone using diatomaceous earth should wear a mask. It should not be placed direct on mattresses and should not be used where children sleep.
Where to buy diatomaceous earth
Diatomaceous earth or Diatom Powder can be bought online or check garden centres and farm supply shops. Ash, lime and dolomite dust have also been used as insecticides for hundreds of years.
Sonic pest controllers, which plug in to your household AC power supply, have never been proved effective against any creepy crawlies, including spiders, cockroaches and termites, despite the manufacturers' claims.
Given this, it's unlikely that sonic pest controlles will prove effective against bed bugs, but the sonic units are relatively inexpensive and this may be worth a try as part of your bedbug blitz.

Bed Bug Killer: Steri-fab Spray Review
Read the reviews, msds, ingredients of Steri-fab bed bug spray and how to apply this bed bug killer for best results.
Steri-fab bed bug spray is a U.S EPA approved non-toxic bed bug killer labeled for use on mattresses and upholstered furniture for killing bed bugs. It is a multi-use product that works as an insecticide, an antibacterial, a deodorant and a disinfectant.
If you need to treat a bed bug infestation, you may be concerned about the pathogens they are known to carry, along with the bites they inflict while you sleep. You may also be worried about lingering odors after insecticides are used to remove the pests, particularly if you are chemically sensitive or have children and pets around. Steri-fab is unique in that it kills not only bed bugs, but also bacteria; plus it also provides a deodorant benefit. Conditions that require insecticides often provide a breeding ground for bacteria, mold and fungus; Steri-fab effectively eradicates these as well.
Steri-fab is product developed to easily kill bed bugs by the Smith Company, an organization that has provided the furniture and bedding industries with a variety of industrial products for the past 65 years. Steri-fab is one of the only EPA-approved bed bug control products labeled for use on mattress and upholstered furniture. In addition, it is approved for use in controlling infestations of dust mites and lice.
The insecticide is a fast-drying, biodegradable product that leaves no residue after application. It may be sprayed on any inanimate surface (except cooking utensils) and poses no threat to animals or humans once it dries. Applied the right way, it can thoroughly wipe out a bed bug infestation.
Steri-fab bed bug spray consists of isopropyl alcohol, a dual quat, and synthetic pyrethroid. A dual quat is a compound common to many disinfectants; pyrethroid is an organic compound used in many pesticides. It is the unique combination of these three ingredients that make Steri-fab such an effective, multi-use product.
Active Ingredients of Steri-Fab: 3-PHENOXYBENZYL D-CIS AND TRANS * *2.2-DIMETHYL-3- (2-METHYLPROPENYL) CYCLOPROPANECARBOXYLATE0 .22%, ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL 60.39%, DIDECYL DIMETHYL AMMONIUM CHLORIDE N-ALKYL (C14 50%,C12 40%, C16 10%) 0.114%, DIMETHYL BENZYL AMMONIUM CHLORIDE0 .076%

Residual sprays remain active long after they are applied; non-residuals active ingredients become inert after they have thoroughly dried.
An insecticide/disinfectant that remains active after drying can have long-term benefits, but also poses hazards: their effects on pests linger, making them potential sources of toxins for animals and humans.
Steri-fab bed bug spray is the non-residual type, meaning that its ingredients are no longer active on surfaces after drying. This is an advantage when using the spray on bedding, mattresses, and upholstered furniture; they will be safe to sleep or sit on, but any pests like bed bugs, lice or dust mites will be completely eliminated.
Steri-fab spray comes pre-diluted; so there is no need to add water or mixing. Use a sprayer designed for water-thin liquids to apply the product to any surfaces you believe to be infested with bed bugs.
Steri-fab is avaialble in 16-ounce spray bottles, ready to be applied. You can also get the gallon jugs if you have a wide area to treat. One gallon can cover approximately 1500 square feet.
To apply and kill bed bugs, spray Steri-fab on your mattress, bedding, headboard, and box spring, taking care to treat all cracks and crevices thoroughly. Spray at close range and allow the surfaces to dry for twenty minutes. You may wish to make a second pass to be sure youve gotten all the pests taken care of.
Steri-fab is non-toxic and has been labeled safe for use around pets and children. This is one of the top benefits of Steri-fab over other brands of insecticides. While it kills the bugs effectively, it does not poses any danger to kids and animals. Your child can safely curl up with his puppy on a Steri-fab treated bed twenty minutes after application. Used as directed, Steri-fab has no harmful side effects.

7 Home Remedies to Combat Bed Bugs – FeminiyaFeminiya
Bed bugs are nocturnal insects, who can give you sleepless nights. They are common in warm areas and feed on blood. So, its very important to get rid of them before they infest all your furniture and mattresses.
Bed bugs typically hide in mattresses, bed covers, etc. during daytime and they crawl out to feed during nights. Therefore, dealing with is actually get quite annoying. Before calling for professional help to get rid of these nocturnal creatures, you might want to have a look at this.
These are pretty hideous creatures and you wont know about them, unless, they are all over the place. So, first you must identify them. Basically, you need a high powered flashlight. Inspect everything closely to look for signs. Strip your furniture one by one to see their signs. You might find small blood specks on the mattresses or if you are careful enough, you will spot the small critters running due to the movement, you created. Once you are sure that its bed bugs, you are dealing with, you can start the prevention.
Heres how to combat the crazy critters.
Start with vacuuming everything. It wouldnt get all the bugs, but it surely gets some of them. Using the crevice tool, properly vacuum the upholstered furniture, mattresses, carpets, curtains, etc.
Wash everything that is washable in hot water. Id suggest putting bed sheets, cushions, soft toys, etc. directly in boiling water and then, wash them. This might not work for the mattresses or the bigger things; so, follow the next step for them.
Direct sunlight helps in getting rid of them, if the weather favors you. Remember that they can handle heat; therefore, we are talking about really high temperature to kill them. Think 60 to 80 degrees. Put your mattresses in direct sunlight, preferably on your terrace or backyard, where theres maximum sunlight.
Even after doing all this, the bed bugs wont be completely gone coz they are pretty stubborn. Put all the clothing in dryer. Such dry heat is quite effective and would definitely kill them.
Use any natural insecticide, which is safe for kids and pets. There are many bed bug prevention sprays and powders, available in the market. Dont go for DDT powder as it is related with cancer and thats not a risk, worth taking.
There are some homemade remedies that are effective on bed bugs, so, you might want to give them a try. Cinnamon oil is known to kill them. Theyd actually explode at the very contact; therefore, you can fill the cinnamon oil in a spray bottle for a very effective bed-bug killer.
Then, theres Lavender oil, which the bed bugs cant handle. They dont like the smell of it. So, a lavender oil spray might also work. As an upside, the lavender oil actually smells good, thus, you can enjoy its fragrance while the bedbugs are getting bugged by it.
After using all these measures, if you still feel that you cant get rid of them, you may take professional help. Consult a professional exterminator to find more ways of keeping them at bay.
Always remember that prevention is better than cure, consequently, be vigilant with your furniture and upholstery. Dont bring any used stuff to the house before proper inspection. Regularly wash and change your bed sheets, covers etc. Hope the article will aid you to get a bug-free life!
