The Rochester Public Library's Sully Branch closed early Friday after bed bugs were discovered there.

The library at530 Webster Ave. is connected to the Thomas P. Ryan R-Center. It will reopen Tuesday to allow a pest control company to spray the building over the weekend.

No evidence of bed bugs were discovered in the adjoining recreation center. But as a precaution, the R-Center will be closed Saturday to allow exterminators to investigate for signs of bed bugs.

If library patrons are concerned about materials borrowed from the Sully Branch, materials may be returned to the library in a zip-top plastic bag. They are asked to indicate if any evidence of bed bugs was discovered on the materials.

"In recent years, incidents of bed bug infestations have become a growing problem for all public buildings including hotels, schools, hospitals and libraries," a city spokesman said in a release. "Because bed bugs can hide in items like jackets, backpacks and other soft materials, they can be brought into any location."

According to the city, libraries are not suitable environments for bed bugs to thrive. "They require a human or animal host to survive and spread."

The Rochester Public Library has established "pest-control policies in its building-maintenance program." This includes regular inspections and treatments recommended by exterminators. Library staff are trained to recognize and report bed bugs to take immediate action to prevent the spread.

Parents get few answers as DC school addresses bed bug issue – FOX 5 DC

Parents say health and school administrators were on site at Savoy Elementary School but they gave no solutions on how to stop the pest problem at the school.

WASHINGTON - An emergency meeting about a reported bed bug, rodent infestation at a southeast elementary school provided few answers for outraged parents Thursday night.

Parents say health and school administrators were on site at Savoy Elementary School but they gave no solutions on how to stop the pest problem at the school.

The Department of Health was also at the school Thursday evening to tell parents about kits they can pick up to determine if they have bed bugs.

DC Public Schools and Department of General Services were there to share what's been done to ease the issue. Parents say what was missing was a clear solution on how to address the problem moving forward. If this would have happened on Wisconsin Avenue, the school would be closed, said Aaron Doughty, a father to students at the school.

Doughty shared photos of what he says are bed bug bites on his two daughters who attend Savoy, and he was hoping the meeting at the school Thursday night would help provide some answers.

No solutions out of this meeting and my daughters have not been in school, I have a note for them and they're scheduled to return back to school on Monday but I want solutions before they come back because you've seen the pictures, Doughty said.

Doughty was one of many who say the school has been infested with bedbugs since November and complaints were ignored.

I was aware of the issue in December but the principal was nonchalant about it, said Commissioner Rhonda Hines.

One thing the parents are saying is this school should be closed. The students and staff should be moved out into a facility until they resolve this problem and I agree. It's a very unhealthy environment for teachers or students or any other staff to be working in, said Elizabeth Davis, President of the Washington Teachers Union.

Savoy's Principal Donyale Butler attended the emotionally charged meeting but avoided questions from the crowd and media.

Bed bug infestation temporarily closes Alabama fire station – UpNorthLive.com

In this photo taken Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, Fire Chief Jeff Perkins talks about a bed bug infestation forced the shutdown of a fire station in Florence, Ala. The station will be cleaned and bedding material destroyed before it reopens. (Matt McKean/The TimesDaily via AP)

A fire station in northwestern Alabama has had to be temporarily closed after an infestation of bed bugs sent at least one firefighter for medical treatment.

Florence city officials said in a news release Thursday that Fire Station 2 is undergoing treatment by an exterminator. The bedding will be destroyed.

Fire officials say they were notified of a potential infestation when a firefighter discovered bites on his wrist Monday. No other firefighters were noticeably affected.

Mayor Steve Holt says officials have determined the cause of the infestation and are taking preventive measures to make sure the same thing doesn't happen at any other facility.

Station 2's nine firefighters have been moved to two other stations, along with their trucks and equipment.

Trump National Doral Miami reportedly settles bed bug case – The Real Deal Magazine

Trump National Doral Miami reportedly settles bed bug case

Details of the deal remain undisclosed

January 31, 2017 05:15PM

Trump National Doral Miami. Inset: abed bug and Donald Trump

Court records show President Donald Trumps lawyers in Miami have reached a tentative settlement with the business traveler whose bed bug wounds were reportedly so severe that he sued the Trump National Doral Miami golf resort.

Welts allegedly covered the mans back, face, and arms after spending the night at the recently renovated resort.

A one-page report in the court documents filed by court-appointed mediator Frank Allocca states simply, an agreement was reached. No further details were reported, according to GossipExtra.

The New Jersey insurance executive Eric Linder, 63, whose March 2016 stay at the resorts $300-a-night Jack Nicklaus-themed villa resulted in an express-care clinic visit, filed suit in late July.

Photos of his back and neck accompanied the filings. He also chose to leave behind several business suits at the Trump resort, for fear of harboring the bugs upon his return home, GossipExtra reported.

I was deceived by Trumps image, Linder told the Miami Herald earlier this year. Its a 5-star resort where this shouldnt happen. It was really traumatic.

Neither Linder, nor lawyers from either side returned calls for comments, GossipExtra reported. [GossipExtra] Gabrielle Paluch
