Heat Treatments Kill Bed Bugs – GreenTech Heat

Begin Killing Bed Bugs in Less Than 15 Minutes

Pesticide-based indoor bed bug control methods raise concern over the safety of occupants. Our affordable heat treatment systems offer you the ability to perform bed bug control work without relying on toxic chemical residues. Heat can be used to kill every type of bed bug and their eggs. Additionally heat can kill bacteria and viruses.

Achieve a proven thermal kill for bed bugs with GreenTech Heat Solution's state-of-the-art technology. Our state-tested technology creates heat convection currents which transfer air throughout the room, forcing heated air molecules to transfer their energy into every surface of the room. Developed and perfected by Michael R. Linford PhD, our equipment is designed to be a complete bed bug heat treatment system without sacrificing quality or capability.

Heat is the only truly organic bed bug control treatment method. Other companies would have you believe that their pesticides are organic or come from natural sources, but every applied pesticide carries with it some level of toxicity. Heat treatments are completely non-toxic and leave no chemical residue, eliminating your exposure over potential client health concerns.

Each ePro heater can treat up to 400 sqft. Electric heat treatment packages with the ePro electric heater require 45 amps to operate a full power and run on 120v power. There's no need for a generator system with GreenTech ePro heaters. Each ePro combines a 3500 cfm fan and 6 heating elements 7 amps each in one powerful unit. You will use 6 power cords per each ePro. The electric system is a "closed" system which means it recycles the heated air inside the structure. A technician does not always need to be present with electric units. You can set up your treatment area, close the door and check on the treatment at a later time.

Each Titan heater can treat up to 3000sqft. Propane heat treatment packages will need to have access to outdoors to stage propane heating unit. The heat from the propane heating unit is "ducted" into the room from outside the building. Propane units are faster to achieve the thermal temperature than electric units and will take less time to perform a treatment. A technician must always be present to monitor the heater and the treatment. The Titan propane is highly efficient and penetrates the structure very well, cutting down treatment times. Propane systems will require a propane tank and hoses. A typical 25 gal/100 lb tank will supply enough propane for the entire treatment.

The full details of heat treatments are provided in our Heat Treatment Field Guide. This is a basic approach to performing a heat treatment.

The same process for treating bed bugs will also kill, and in some cases, completely eradicate other organisms.

Heat systems affecting heat treatment run times and methodology.

Equipment used: ePro electric 400 package

Equipment used: Titan propane 3000 package

All efforts should be taken to preheat a structure prior or during set-up of heat treatment equipment. Starting with a pre-heated room achieves faster arrival times for lethal temperature resulting in less treatment time, and higher productivity.

Bed bugs are widespread and have been found in houses, apartments, hotels, schools, hospitals, dormitories and movie theaters. They use their straw-like mouth parts to suck blood from warm-blooded animals such as humans, bats, and birds. Adults are oval-shaped, flattened front to back, and wingless. At maturity, they are 4-5 mm long and 1.5-3 mm wide. They are light brown when hungry but after a feeding on blood, their abdomen looks bright red, red-brown, or blackish. Bed bugs may be mistaken for small cockroaches but unlike cockroaches, which scavenge human food, bed bugs feed only on blood. They remain hidden during the day and actively feed at night. Their bites are painless but the bite wounds can be extremely itchy for days later. If disturbed, alarmed, or crushed, they leave dark stains (fecal spots), often on sheets and bedding.

Bed bugs have three stages in their life cycle: egg, nymph, adult. Adult females lay eggs on rough dry surfaces near their hiding places, either singly or in small clusters. One to four weeks later, the nymphs hatch from the eggs and seek a host animal from which to feed. As nymphs eat and mature, they outgrow their skin, grow a new skin layer (exoskeleton) beneath it, and shed the old one, a process called molting. Following each molt, the nymph is a little larger. After the fifth growth-molt cycle, usually 4-6 weeks later, the bed bug reaches full size and is an adult. The process of changing body forms while maturing is called metamorphosis.

At night, bed bugs travel from their hiding places to feed on sleeping host animals. They insert their long needle-like mouthparts into the skin, inject saliva which digests blood cells, and drink up the digested blood. As the abdomen fills with blood, it turns bright red, dark red-brown, or blackish. After feeding, they retreat to their hiding places. They typically feed every 5 10 days but can live up to 8 months without feeding.

Unlike many insects that feed on human blood, bed bugs are not known to transmit (vector) any disease-causing bacteria or viruses (pathogens). Reactions to bed bug bites very among individuals. Many victims show no signs of bites. Others dont realize theyve been bitten until rash, redness, or swelling appears around the bite, sometimes with intense itching.

Bed bugs are active at night and are adept at hiding in dark places during the day. They most often hide in crevices and in spaces between mattresses and box springs, on bed frames and headboards, and between couch and chair cushions. They are less commonly found in dressers and nightstands, in and on luggage, in electrical outlets, and among clutter. Once they infest a room, they often travel to adjacent rooms.

Proper sanitation practices and diligence can help prevent bed bug infestation.

During an open system treatment with propane heaters, vent the building out the door the Titan directly ducts into. This will begin to preheat the air around the heater, improving heat buildup and reducing treatment times.

What Not to Do for Bed Bugs – University of Florida

Faith M. Oi, Jennifer Gillett-Kaufman, Eddie Connor, Marty Overline, Brian Taggart, and Louis Witherington2

Engorged adult and nymphal bed bug.

L. Buss, UF

In desperate attempts to eliminate bed bugs, people often turn to home remedies that can be fatal. Here is a list of what not to do for bed bug control. The list is comprised of practices that are ineffective or illegal and can be harmful to your health. The following list was compiled based on observations of pest control professionals who do bed bug remediation on a regular basis.

Off-label applications are defined as pesticides used in a manner contrary to the directions for use on a pesticide product. The label directions are considered law, both at the federal and state levels. Thus, using a product off label violates federal and state laws.

Do not use foggers. They are ineffective and not a replacement for a proper fumigation.

Do not attempt to use heat to treat your own home, particularly in combination with flammable materials such as alcohol or any of the products, items or practices listed in Table 1. The combination of heat with do-it-yourself pest control products and home remedies has resulted in structurally destructive fires.

Do not

Make off-label applications of current products and apply them to beds, mattresses or bedding

Mix multiple off- and on-label products

Mix various products with carriers like alcohol, kerosene and diesel fuel

Use tape to seal outlets and apply it backwards, or double-sided tape, to keep bed bugs from climbing up furniture as it is ineffective

Off-label pesticide use is the biggest safety concern that licensed pest control professionals see on a regular basis when they are called in after failed home remedies.

Advice from one pest control professional on succeeding against bed bugs: Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is truly the key to success in this battle, the bed area being the most important. The bed must be isolated from the walls, no curtains hanging on the bed, no stored items under the bed, no bed skirts, no stuffed animals kept on the bed. Live like a Marine until the issue is resolved (Overline, personal communication).

The legal repercussions, such as injury to people and damage to property, resulting from an improper treatment will always far outweigh the inconvenience of the infestation or having to live like a Marine.

Chincha ninfal y adulto engullido.

L. Buss, UF

No use nebulizadores.

No

Do not apply the following:

Flammable liquids: gasoline, kerosene, alcohol (drinking and isopropyl), or diesel fuel

Exterior-only or lawn & ornamental products applied indoors

Bleach or other household cleaners

Pesticides from outside the U.S., often ordered online

Sevin dust

Large quantities of diatomaceous earth

Arsenic dust

Store-bought gardening products of all types that claims to kill bugs other than bed bugs

Dursban dust

Cedar oil

Boric acid dust

Moth balls

Oils and soaps used on furniture, this will not keep bed bugs from climbing up

Fine cut chewing tobacco (supposedly an old home remedy, but ineffective)

No applique lo siguiente:

Materiales inflamables: gasolina, queroseno, alcohol (potable y/o isoproplico), o combustible diesel

Get Rid of Bed Bugs at AMC Empire 25 – Change.org

AMC Empire 25 appears to be infested with bed bugs yet again.

The bed bug scare appeared at AMC Empire 25 in 2010, it returned in 2011 and returned again in 2015 - now it is back again in 2017. Yet, their exterminator claims that there were no bed bugs? How, if a woman posted pictures of them?

Over and over, throughout the years people were bit by bed bugs at this theater.

Bed bugs bite. And removing them from a home can cost thousands. Getting bed bugs into a house or apartment can literally ruin lives and cost people their life savings. Many patrons are not aware of that or their presence when they visit AMC Empire 25.

So AMC Empire 25 shall do one of two possible things:

1. Put up a giant sign on their front doors saying "THIS THEATER HAS BEDBUGS"

or, and this is preferred,

2. renovate just like AMC Kips Bay 15 or AMC Village 7 did.

or, and this is very pragmatic,

3. Hire additional exterminators, as your current one doesn't seem to be doing his job properly. Hire a second or third or even fourth one. A lady posted pictures of a bed bug and your exterminator told you that there were none? That is very, very hard to believe.

But remaining the way it is now is simply putting customers into dangerous positions often without their knowledge.

This constant bed bug scare at AMC Empire 25 needs to end.

UPDATE 10/12/2017: Thanks to the Gothamist for shining attention to the issue: http://gothamist.com/2017/10/12/bed_bugs_movies_nyc.php

AMC claims there are no bed bugs because their third-party exterminator allegedly received negative results at the night of the complaints. Well, this might then be a great opportunity to hire another exterminator. The newest pictures literally showed a bug in the theater, which was identified by an expert on bed bugs to be around 8 weeks old. Maybe a second or third exterminator would be a good idea. Because since 2010, their exterminator apparently hasn't been doing his job right.

Did I Pick Up Bed bugs in the Airport? | Hearts Consulting …

During my trip to NY, I spoke with two PCOs about bed bugs. In fact, in NY, its hard to have a pest management professional talk about anything but bed bugs. It is on their minds non-stop, for good reason. The market for bed bug work is endless. You would think that pest management professionals have reached conclusions about how to treat, but they havent, nor have they reached any common conclusions on how to price. Thats actually a very good thing, as different companies gear themselves to different segments of the bed bug market.I was surprised to hear how much cryonite has entered the marketplace as a valued control mechanism. I have always thought that freezing was an excellent alternative to heating, with better penetration in a quick timeframe with equipment that is far less expensive than heat. Whether using heating or freezing equipment, what you cant get around in some unusual logistics. The equipment just doesnt jive with what you traditionally find on a pest control vehicle.

I found there are still companies in NY, like our own, that believe you can do one and only one bed bug treatment effectively. Yet that is not the only criteria for having only one treatment, as liability concerns dictate much of what happens in the bed bug market.

There seem to be more folks leaning to Steri-Fab over Bedlam, but while both products can be used on a bed, they are apples and oranges non-residual vs. residual. They each have their place.

So whats up with bed bugs in the airport? I just realized that although Ive been having conversations all week about bed bugs, I forgot to check for them in the airport! Perhaps its a false calm, but Im happy I flew Southwest out of Islip, Long Island, rather than Newark, Kennedy or LaGuardia, the urban centered airports. I love Southwest, because of what they have great service and what to date, they dont seem to have. Bed bugs.

Where Do Bed Bugs Hide In The Winter NYC?

Where Do Bed Bugs Hide In The Winter? A number of animals are known to slumber in the winter, while others tend to slow or alter their normal activities. This is because their bodies cannot adapt to the cold very well, so they find themselves feeling more sluggish than normal. This explains why its so hard to get rid of your relatives after Christmas dinner.

Many insects are the same way. They are unable to cope as well in the cold as they can in the warmer months of the year, so they become more scarce than normal. For some homeowners, this prompts a very simple question: where do bed bugs hide in the winter?

This a tricky question, because there is one simple truth to face: bed bugs do not stay outside when it gets cold. Bed bugs might be difficult to get rid of, especially in the case of an infestation, but their bodies are fragile. If they attempted to stay outside during winter, they wouldnt stand a chance. They would quickly die off.

The fact is that bed bugs do not have the ability to hibernate. When winter arrives, they have no choice but to push through it and try to survive. The best way for them to do this is to find a warm place to hide out. If they can get inside your home, this becomes their warm place. And since bed bugs can often live up to a year without feeding, they can stay hidden for a good long while.

Now that weve established that there is no chance that bed bugs will attempt to stay outside since it would mean certain death, you must consider where they will hide inside your house. Although the simple answer would be that bed bugs will hide in the same areas as they do during other parts of the year, it is important that you pay closer attention to places that are heated during the winter. Start looking in places such as

Instead of concentrating on searching for evidence of bed bugs in attics or basements where it might be chilly, look in the warmer areas of your house such as bedrooms. As always, bed bugs will hide in cracks and holes in the wall, along with inside mattresses and other furniture, where they will take up residence until such time that they can venture out (usually at night) and find a juicy person to sink their teeth into. No matter the season, always be on the lookout for these nasty parasites!

If you have difficulty locating them or getting rid of them, it is a good idea to call a professional. With the increase of bed bug infestations over the years, pest control experts are well versed on how to get rid of bed bugs. If needed, they may suggest that you employ the use of bed bug dogs in order to locate them. At that point, these professionals will evaluate your needs and recommend what would be best in your specific situation.
