Bed Bugs – Guide to Missouri Parasitic Insects | Steve’s Pest
The bed bug used to be a pest of the past, but has made a resurgence over the last few years. Hotels and apartment complexes are vulnerable to these insects due to the sheer number of people coming in and out of them. The bed bug is about the size of a small tick and feeds on human blood. If there is an infestation, bed bugs will seek shelter during the day in cracks and crevices and come out at night to feed. They can be found around mattress trim, boxsprings, bed coverings, bed frames, wall hangings, baseboards, behind loose wallpaper, light switches, etc. Small spots of blood can sometimes be found on the bed sheets. Proper treatment is key in controlling a bed bug infestation, as they can quickly spread to other areas of the building and become a much larger problem.
If bed bugs invade your home, contact Steves Pest Control to schedule ourBed Bug Heat Treatment. This service is extremely effective in eliminating these blood suckers from your home.

Bed Bugs | City of Alexandria, VA
What are Bed Bugs
The bed bug (Cimex lectularius) is a wingless, red-brown insect that feeds on blood. It is small (about the size of an apple seed) and you can see them without a magnifying glass. Bed bugs are not considered a public health risk because they are not known to spread diseases. They can, however, cause skin irritations and sleepless nights.
Bed bugs usually live fromfour months toa year. They hide in cracks and crevices in beds, wooden furniture, floors, and walls during the daytime. At night, they emerge from hiding and feed on their preferred host: humans.
In 2005, the Health Department began receiving complaint about bed bugs in the city. In response, we have developed several presentations and brochures to assist residents and businesses in the city.
Ifyou find a bed bug inyour hotel, motel, hostel or bedand breakfast room, notify theproprietor immediately. If the facility is in the City of Alexandria, you can also report it to the Alexandria Health Department, Environmental Health Division at 703.746.4910. Visit http://www.alexandriva.gov/87518 to read more about making a complaint.
If you are a renter and you discover bed bugs, immediately report the problem to your landlord or management company; they may have a plan already in place to deal with the problem. Simply discarding beds and bedding isnot a good approach to bed bug management. Bed bugs will spread quickly to walls, molding, ceilings, light fixtures, electronics, picture frames and spaces within and along floor boards and the edges of carpets. It is difficult to manage a bed bug problem by yourself, so it is always a good idea to hire a licensed pest control company.
Bed bugs are likely being transferred from place to place through infested furniture and discarded objects. DO NOT take furniture from in or around a trash area even though you may not see bugs they may be present. If you are discarding furniture that may have bed bugs be sure to slash mattresses and plush furniture, break box spring frames, and label items with the word bed bugs to prevent the spread of bed bugs in your community. Wrap discarded items in plastic sheeting and tape to avoid dropping bed bugs during transport.
Getting rid of bed bugs is difficult and time consuming, but it can be done. Residents and landlord or property management must worktogether to succeed. There is no single tool or activity that, used alone, will eliminate bed bugs, including pesticides. Multiple techniques are always required because bed bugs are small, good at hiding, and can live without feeding for many months. Treatment of a living area for bed bugs should focus on containment of the infestation. Do everything possible to avoid spreading bed bugs to new locations. A combination of the following steps will be needed for bed bug control:

Bed Bugs in Texas – Bed Bug Treatment Houston
Anum Valliani NewsWest 9
WEST TEXAS A mother and son had just arrived to Odessa from New Mexico to get some sleep and save some money, they decided to stay at a bargain motel. Thats when they claim they found bed bugs and all their troubles started.
She was like do you see anything, do you see anything, and I looked and there was nothing, Joseph Lopez said.
A little while later, I got up and down and up and down and looked in the mirror and I was getting bites all in my shoulders, Sandra Swann said.
Soon the welts spread everywhere but the Ector County Health Department said the Sahara Motel checked out clean.
Yeah, I wanna let them sleep in that bed for a night and tell us theres no bugs in that room, Lopez said.
Then we received surveillance videos of their arrival, in which you can see the bed of their truck had an exposed mattress. Also in it, Lopez is seen lightly scratching his head and hands. But the two are sure they didnt bring the bugs in.
I didnt have anywhere near a scratch when I got there than I did as I left, Lopez said.
Theyre hitch hiking insects, Buesher said.
He said bed bug cases have been reported in 48 of the 50 states. And in Texas, theres not a city without the infestation. Plus, the little bugscan get anywhere. They might be small, but they move fast, reproduce quickly and pack a big punch or bite.
Youll scratch till you bleed, Lopez said.
You have to take the wall plugs off because theyll penetrate through the wall and go from room to room that way, Buesher said.
But more than anything, Buesher said its the paranoia that accompanies the bites, that has people itching.
Theyve heard their stories all their life. Dont let the bed bugs bite, he said.
I got the heeby jeebies or the creepy crawlies and everything you feel, youre just paranoid. Paranoid, Swann said.
He also said that four years ago his company used to get five to six calls a year to kill those vermin, now its five to six a week. Cleanliness is not associated with them, while places with high turnover, like hotels are.
One of the smartest things you can do when you travel is to put your luggage and everything in black plastic bags, wrap them up tight and do not unpack, do not put them in the drawers, in the dressers that are in the motel rooms, Buesher said.
If that fails companies like Bushwhackers are experts at killing them off with heat and other nifty tools, like slippery disks that serve as, a pitfall type trap that theyll fall into, Buescher said.
The Buginator says heat is the best remedy for bed bugs. If you think you have them, just take off your clothes, sheets, and anything else and stick them in the drier on high heat for 30 minutes. Anything above 120 degrees Fahrenheit will kill them, although you need higher temperatures for the eggs.
