Recently in the news Bedbugs are back and have been creating problems in New York, Philadelphia, and Kentucky. Due to increased travel, immigration, and pesticide resistance these critters are creating an infestation problem. Bed bug bites can appear in several ways. Some people react with a red bump ranging from a few millimeters to 1 centimeter. The bites can be extremely itchy and can lead to infections especially in patient's who have a weak immune system, such as diabetics. Some people are very sensitive to these bites and can develop severe hives or swelling. In these more serious reactions, I recommend to follow-up with your health care provider. So what can you do to alleviate the itchy symptoms? You can try over-the-counter corticosteroid creams, such as cortisone, or oral antihistamines, such as loratadine. Avoid topical diphenhydramine also known as Benadryl which may cause an allergic skin reaction called contact dermatitis. http://www.savantmd.com http://www.savantmd.com This video was produced by SavantMD Inc. © Copyright 20010 SavantMD Inc.
