Hartshorne City Hall closed Monday and Tuesday after bed bugs found in portion of building – kjrh.com

HARTSHORNE, Okla. -- We just did it as a precaution, just in case we werent quite sure what we had, didnt want to take any chances, said City of Hartshorne Treasurer Destiny French.

Abed bug threat isnt stopping Hartshorne City Treasurer, Destiny French and her fellow city employees from working Tuesday.

We have a lot of business to take care of, theres a lot going on and we still have a lot of work to do, said French.

She said city hall closed, after someone found a bed bug on a piece of furniture. However, she said the city isnt sure where the bug came from.

It could be from multiple ways, our EMTs go in and out of houses, the cops go in and out of houses. It just takes picking up one and thats what we found in the chair there was just a trace of it, said French.

They could cause an epidemic here in our town so I think thats a positive, said The Ole Corral Restaurant Server Brandiale Walker.

Brandiale Walker said its refreshing to see the city employees working hard, regardless of the bed bugs.

Theyre taking more steps but I just dont think Id want to be in there with bed bugs, said Walker.

There is no bed bugs anywhere else in the building, theyre gonna treat it, were gonna get rid of the chair and thatll fix our problem, said French.

City officials tells 2 Works For You they expect city hall to be open tomorrow. The city also had to cancel Monday nights council meeting. They said the meeting will be rescheduled to later this week or next Monday.
