Bed bugs: Tips for an infestation | WDAZ – WDAZ

Nelson was spending the night with her friend at the Thief River resort. After splashing in the water park, she found something else cuddling with her under the sheets.

Nelson: And that was a tiny one, and then moved it some more and it was a big one, huge one. I woke up my little guy because there was one crawling right next to him.

A local exterminator says if you're worried about bed bugs, wiping your luggage with rubbing alcohol and storing the bags and laundry in the garage will keep you covered.

Robert Derrick, Complete Pest Control: "When you get home, make sure that you empty out your clothing wash that through the wash cycle and then dryer.

Derrick says you'll notice the signs of an infestation at home within days, possibly even a rash on your skin.

Derrick: "They feed off us at night so they're nocturnal, so they'll be seen at night, but you do see them during the day when they are really infested."

For now, the hotel's guests are using bombs at home and in their cars to try to kill any potential hitchhikers.

Blake Fitzgerald, guest: "Every hotel I ever go to I will be taking the precautionary measures when I get there to look through the bed, look through the sheets and do everything I can to make sure that they're not there."

Two people not itching to stay in a hotel room anytime soon.

Seven Clans Resort and Casino released a statement saying quote, "We can assure our guests that this issue is NOT wide spread in the hotel and this is an isolated incident. We, as most all hotels, do have a history of battling bed bugs but it has never gotten worse than a handful of rooms and we have addressed the issues immediately when they've occurred."
