MHS found not to have additional bedbugs | Areas treated as precautionary measure – The Marshall Democrat-News

Roughly a week and a half ago, the Marshall School District confirmed a case of bed bugs in the high school library, saying the area has been treated and cleaned. School officials also planned to do additional treatments with heating equipment on Friday, Feb. 14, stating the library would be sectioned off from staff and students until professionals could assure there was no longer a problem.

On Friday, Feb. 21, the school district released a statement saying an individual at the high school reported the sighting of a single bed bug.

School officials have called for professional service to inspect the areas in which the individual had been and, depending on the outcome of the inspection, will follow appropriate protocol, Superintendent Carol Maher said in the statement. At this time the entire situation is unknown, but there have been no sightings of eggs or other bugs by any other person.

As of early Friday afternoon, no students have reported sightings, and areas students can access in the building were being limited.

School officials and pest control specialists confirmed Friday that there were no additional bedbugs or eggs. It was inspected again and treated on Sunday, Feb. 23. Although no bugs were found, areas that had been identified as suspicious were treated additionally, according to information from Maher.

For students wellbeing, they will not be allowed in the following areas until Tuesday morning: areas in front of Mr. Verts' office and Mrs. Heinzler's desk, coaches office on boys' side, and the weight room.

There will also be additional guidance and support for identifying tyes of bugs, prevention, and treatment of clothing, school items, and living areas if necessary, Maher stated. Thank you forworking with us to keep Marshall kids healthy and happy.
