Pennsylvania Walmart finds bed bugs in jacket and men’s fitting rooms, forcing partial store closure – Infosurhoy

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after someone released bed bugs in a Walmart store.

A manager contacted cops after an employee found bugs inside a closed pill bottle left in the pocket of a boys jacket which was for sale and left in the changing area on Thursday.

Staff at the store contacted Ecolab, which the next day confirmed it was bed bugs and also saw them crawling around the mens fitting room of the 108 Washington Towne Boulevard branch in Washington Township.

On Friday, a second container of dead creepy crawlies was located on the floor near the belts in the mens department of the Edinboro branch.

We take this seriously and are looking into this, a Walmart spokesperson told CNN.

We are fully cooperating with law enforcement on their investigation.

The Walmart store sectioned off the area where the insects were found.

State police in Girard are investigating how the blood-suckers got there.

A third-party pest management service has visited the store and we are working with them to assess next steps, the Walmart spokesperson said.

In the meantime, we have blocked off the impacted area.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention they can survive months without feeding on human blood, which commonly takes place while people and animals sleep.

They can be recognized by small black spots on bed sheets, red dots caused by crushing them after theyve recently fed, or their white eggs burrowed into furnishings.

While the creepy crawlies less commonly known as Cimex lectularius are not known to carry disease, they spread very easily and can be costly to exterminate professionally at anywhere from $200 to $1,500 per room.
