This story is sure to make your skin crawl.
On Friday afternoon a man, apparently fed up with his experiences with bed bugs, dumped a Styrofoam cup of about a hundred of them on the desk of the general assistance office at Augusta City Hall.
Augusta City Manager Bill Bridgeo saiad when the man slammed the cup down on the counter, some of the bugs landed on the sweater of the woman who was working there.
The man told them he wanted the government workers to experience what he had been dealing with.
Over the weekend, the building was sprayed by exterminators, and next week bed bug-sniffing dogs will sweep the building to ensure none of the pests got away.
Police said the man has not been charged at this time, but the officials are encouraging the district attorney's office to prosecute him.
Bridgeo said he is most concerned about the well-being of his employees affected by this incident.
"Just the physical threat of being exposed to these things and somehow inadvertently carrying them home and contaminating their home with them was a concern, he said.
And the psychological thing that somebody would think so little of them or treat them in that way so as to do that. To me that's more disturbing than the actual physical threat."
Bridgeo said that he has been in this line of work for quite some time and this is one of the most bizarre things he has seen.
