Bed Bugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – North Carolina Landlord-Tenant Law

Bed bugs have made a resurgence all over the world and North Carolina has not been immune. This is not a problem that any property owner or manager should take lying down. Below I am posting an e-mail from the Wake County Government about an upcoming Bed Bug informational meeting they are having on October 6, 2010

From: Carla.Piedrahita@wakegov.com [mailto:Carla.Piedrahita@wakegov.com] Subject: Bed Bug Interest Meeting - October 6 - Please RSVP

Wake County Government has observed an increase in the number of reports of bed bugs in the community. While bed bugs do not transmit disease, they can severely impact the quality of life of our citizens. Reported cases of bed bugs seem to be on the rise, but we still believe there is an opportunity to develop education and outreach programs and services that can serve as valuable resources to our citizens to address this problem.

On Wednesday, October 6, 2010, from 10 am until noon, Wake County Government will host a meeting of concerned parties to discuss the issue of bed bugs in our community. The meeting will be held in the Boardroom (344) of the Health Department, located at 10 Sunnybrook Rd in Raleigh (next to WakeMed Hospital). We would like to use the meeting to review and discuss information regarding the current degree of bed bug infestation in the community, public health concerns associated with bed bugs, programs and services that are currently available to citizens to address bed bugs, methods and techniques used to eliminate bed bugs, current research on bed bugs, and lessons learned from other communities. At the conclusion of the meeting, it is anticipated that a series of follow up meetings will be scheduled as part of a plan of work to develop bed-bug related education and outreach programs and services for our citizens.

We are looking forward to meeting you on October 6th. Please RSVP to Carla Piedrahita by replying to this e-mail. If you are unable to make the meeting, or if there is another person from your office that would be more appropriate, feel free to send a representative. Please don't hesitate to call if you have any questions in the meantime.

Thanks for your interest in attending this meeting.

A step-by-step approach to implement IPM (Integrated Pest Management)

Bed bug action plan for apartments

I am suggesting IPM strategies to get rid of bed bugs from an apartment complex. A complete eradicationof bed bugs!!! An IPM specialist can tremendouslyhelp to get rid of bed bugs (bedbug). Here is an AmazonKindle ebook for apartment bedbug management (action plans).

Bed bug problems wont go away, when ignored. It only grows bigger. Some of us will experience bed bugs, and many of us need to be prepared for the possibility. All the information about bed bugs is important, because mistakes can be minimized. Apartments and multi-dwelling houses will have a higher chance of getting bed bugs, simply because of large number of tenants. There is a tremendous challenge ahead when one wants to get rid of all the bed bugs. Scarce resources for controlling bed bugs can be a huddle. Nevertheless, it is operationally possible for an apartment manager to follow these step-by-step guidelines and it is possible for him to be successful in the bed bug control and prevention.

SPCAP ~ Sleep Products ~ Bed bugs – North Carolina …

"Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite" is more than a quaint expression. Bed bugs, often referred to as chinches, used to be a common problem before 1950. With the widespread use of persistent insecticides, like DDT, they became rare. Current trends such as reducing pesticide use through targeting and increased travel may have inadvertently led to the resurgence of bed bugs. Reports of bed bugs have increased since the 1990s, especially in hotels, dormitories and apartments.

People are often surprised to learn that adult bed bugs can be up to a quarter of an inch long, approximately the size of an apple seed. Adult bed bugs are dark brown and have a flattened body. They hide in tight places on the mattress, box springs, bed frame and often elsewhere in the room. During feeding, as the abdomen fills with blood, it becomes dull red and more rounded. Young bed bugs look much like the adults but are smaller and may be a lighter color.

Bed bugs are night feeders, crawling out from their daytime hiding places to feed while you sleep. Each bug may bite more than once and a pattern of clustered bites or in a line is not uncommon. Bed bug bites are not currently shown to transmit diseases. The bite is usually painless but can itch and scratching can lead to a secondary infection.

Bed bugs are excellent 'hitchikers.' Small enough to remain hidden in a suitcase or clothing, they can travel from place to place quickly, setting up residence in your home or dormitory. Each female can lay a total of 200 to 500 eggs during her lifespan. Therefore, bedbug populations can increase quickly, leading to an infestation that is hard to eliminate. See "Controlling Bedbugs" for more information.

To avoid bed bugs, you can do an inspection of your sleeping area, especially when traveling. Check for bed bugs by lifting the mattress from the box spring and checking the gap for either live bugs or black spots staining the mattress which could be the remnants of digested blood. Bed bugs may also be found along seams, beading, under buttons or labels. Bed bugs may also hide behind the headboard, along the frame or in cracks or crevices of adjacent furniture. For more information, please see our Traveler's Guide.

Please be cautious when acquiring used bedding or furniture since bed bugs can live up to 12 months without food. North Carolina law requires that used bedding from a retail outlet must be professionally sanitized by a licensed sanitizer before being sold in the state. Used furniture can also harbor an infestation and should be checked completely.

If you think you have encountered bedbugs, please contact your local health department or the Sleep Products Section at (919) 733-6407. For more information, please visit:

Officials Confirm Presence of Bed Bugs in NC Marine Base …

Bed bugs infested a Marine base in North Carolina, said a report. In order to help anyone dealing with those critters, My Cleaning Products suggested a spray to kill bed bugs fast and safe.

Jacksonville, NC (PRWEB) April 14, 2014

Bed bugs were reportedly infesting a Marine Corps base in North Carolina. The website marinecorpstimes.com relayed the details of it on its post published on April 10, 2014. In connection with it, My Cleaning Products recommended a pesticide-exempt bed bug spray to help anyone with the same problem kill bed bugs right away.

According to the post, the crawlies started troubling the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in August last year. And as it detailed, since then, there were already multiple confirmed reports of their infestation. The latest of which, it added, was just last Wednesday.

The report related that the base's problem with the critters was brought out by one Marine, who was a victim of the pesky bugs. It shared that he requested to remain anonymous but said that he was left to spend his own money for his room's clean up after he reported his encounters with the pests.

But in response to the claim, officials said in the report that they are more hands-on when it comes to eliminating bed bugs than what the Marine indicated.

Here is an excerpt from the post Bed Bugs Infest Marine Corps Base by My Cleaning Products.

Bed bugs are some of the smallest creatures that you may ever come across with. But don't be fooled by their size as they could cause a huge ruckus almost anywhere. In fact, they were even able to get past the defenses of a Marine Corps base in North Carolina.

The bed bug problem in the said base was publicized when one sergeant talked about it in the Marine Corps Times. And following the release of the story, officials with Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point confirmed the infestation of the critters.

My Cleaning Products commented that this news proves that bed bugs really choose no place to infest. It added that this, as well, shows how sneaky they are that they were even able to get past the Marines' defenses.
