We have all heard the phrase, " Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite."

But it's not just beds where the biting pests like to nest.

Many public facilities are waging a not-so-private war against bed bugs.

Cabell County Library manager Judy Rule said over the past few months her well-studied bed bug staff sealed up six returned books with bed bugs inside. And she then banned those library patrons from borrowing any more books until they can show they will not be returning infested materials in the future.

Cabell County Health Dept Environmentalist Stan Mills said, "Although bed bugs like beds the best, they're tucked into low-rises, high-rises, they are everywhere."

Mills added the biting pests do not carry diseases and crave two things, tight places and human blood.

Rule said to monitor the problem she and her staff have been placing sticky strips in several tight places. And so far they have found two bed bugs.

Mills say bed bugs are likely transferred through transients.

But Rule says none of the library's bed bug books came from a Huntington City Mission patron.
