Arrow Exterminators, Inc. : Bed Bug Control

Bed bugs are all over the news these days. From the upscale hotels on the east coast to the dorms of Oklahoma State University, the bed bugs are biting. The prevailing thought is that, after decades of effective bed bug control in America, bed bugs are coming with travelers from Asia and Eastern Europe. With more than 50 years of Oklahoma pest control experience, we know what it takes to keep you tucked in, sleeping tight without the bed bugs biting.

Bed bugs usually bite people at night as their victim sleeps. They feed by piercing the skin with an elongated beak through which they withdraw blood. Bed Bugs tend to bite us on any part of the body, whereas mosquito bites are usually on the feet and ankles. They will suck for up to 10 minutes before retreating from your skin to digest their new meal. Bed Bugs in Oklahoma are about 3/16 of an inch long with reddish-brown, flattened oval bodies. They are sometimes mistaken for ticks or cockroaches. Bed bugs do not fly but can move rapidly over floors, walls, ceilings and other surfaces on their way to feasting on your blood.

What is the best method of bed bug control? Believe it or not, some people try to protect themselves by applying conventional insect repellents. Mosquito and tick repellents are ineffective as bed bug control, and you won't fool them by sleeping with the lights on either.

The most successful bed bug control method involves the proper application of heat. We're not talking about turning up your thermostat. Call our bed bug control experts today. We'll have you or your guests sleeping soundly!

Studies show that bed bugs, in all life style stages, can't survive heat over 122F.

The process starts by applying heat over 122F and not to exceed 135F, we then monitor using wireless sensors to ensure the temperatures are lethal enough to the bed bugs but not harming the current atmosphere or bed. Lastly, we move air using high powered fans to make sure we get the heat into all cracks of the bed to make sure every last bed bug is gone.

Arrow Exterminators is the only company in Oklahoma using state of the art Thermal Remediation technology which is proven to irradicate Bed bugs. Contact Arrow Exterminators and our bed bug control experts will get you tucked in tight. Whether it's a private residence, dormitory, hotel, or more. Body Lice vs. Bed Bugs: How to Tell the Difference …

Body lice and bed bugs are related parasites and they feed on human blood. It is important to tell the difference between these two types of parasites, so as to be able to get suitable treatment and eliminate the parasites from your home and environment.

The body louse (Pediculus humanus humanus) feeds on human blood and will cause extreme itchiness and discomfort. The body louse may survive up to 30 days in a suitable environment and can be eliminated through boiling infested clothes and bed linen.

Bed bugs are a small parasite from the Cimicidae family. Bed bugs feed on the blood of humans and will be mostly active during nighttime. During daytime, bed bugs stay hidden in furniture, mattresses or rugs.

The differences between body lice and bed bugs are subtle; however, it is essential to identify the lice or the bed bugs. You should look at the size, color, odor and the bite marks. Body lice may be felt during day time, as they will get attached to clothes or skin; bed bugs will be felt mostly during the night or when sleeping in the infested area.

Body lice are smaller in size than bed bugs; body lice are on average 3 to 4 mm (the size of a sesame seed), while bed bugs are 6 to 9 mm before feeding. Lice and lice nits may be visible, especially if you use a magnifying glass; however, bed bugs tend to hide and are more difficult to spot. Bed bugs may be detected during nighttime using a flashlight.

The color of the body lice may be gray or transparent, while the color of bed bugs is brown; however, once the body lice are filled with blood, they will also have a brown color.

Take a look at the bite mark; the body lice will leave a single bite mark (there may be other marks on the body) whereas the bed bugs will cause a series of 3 or more linear bite marks. Lice cause itchiness, while bed bugs will only cause itchiness in more sensitive people that react to the bed bug saliva.

The bed bugs will also leave a dark brown or black mark on the bed linen. These marks are actually excrement (digested blood) left by bed bugs. Bed bugs may also cast their skin, so you can also detect their skins in the bed or neighboring areas.

If the bed bugs are numerous, the home will have a foul odor, which is caused by the oils secreted by the bugs. Typically, body lice don't have a specific odor.

The transmission of body lice is through direct contact with an infested person or by sharing clothes or bed linen with an infested person. Bed bugs can only be transmitted through sharing clothes or bed linen.

Two institutions of higher education within the city operate at the NCAA Division I level, Oral Roberts University and the University of Tulsa. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulsa)

Bed Bugs — Oklahoma City-County Health Department

When our office is notified of problems with bedbugs in an apartment complex, hotel, or motel, an inspector is sent to the location to determine the complaints validity and to assist the owners of the property in taking the appropriate action to rid the facilities of this pest.

Private owners and renters of single family dwellings can contact our office for information in regards to elimination of bedbugs, but our inspectors will not visit these locations to determine if bedbugs exist in the home.

It is important to remember that no transmission of human disease has been linked to bedbugs and as such are not technically a public health hazard; they are a nuisance pest only.

Q: What are bed bugs? Bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) are small, flat, parasitic insects that feed solely on the blood of people and animals. Bed bugs are reddish-brown in color, have inoperable wings, range from 1mm to 7mm (roughly the size of Lincolns head on a penny), and can live several months without a blood meal.

Q: How do I know if my home has bed bugs? Look for:

Q: Do bed bugs spread disease? Bed bugs should not be considered as a medical or public health hazard. Bed bugs are not known to spread disease. Bed bugs can be an annoyance because their presence may cause itching and loss of sleep. Sometimes the itching can lead to excessive scratching that can sometimes increase the chance of a secondary skin infection.

Q: How did I get bed bugs? Bed bugs are transferred from place to place as people travel. The bed bugs travel in the seams and folds of luggage, overnight bags, bedding, furniture, and anywhere else where they can hide.

Q: Who is responsible for bed bug treatment? The landlords are legally responsible for the treatment or removal of the tenant in multifamily dwellings. In single family the tenant is responsible to control pest and rodents.

Q: Where do bed bugs hide? Locate all possible places that the bed bugs might be hiding. Bed bugs can be found:

Q: How can I eliminate bed bug problem? Bed bugs are very difficult to get rid of because they are hard to find and kill. Making your home bed bug-free will take time and effort from you, the housing manager (if the home is a rental unit) and a pest control company.
