Where to FindHow to Kill or Get Rid of Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are (bloodsucking) insects that feed on humans and other warm blooded mammals. The current wave of bed bug infestations across America has caused great concern in bed bug prevention, eradication, reported sightings, and overall education about this human pest. Let Bed Bug Detection Remediation Services of South Carolina get rid of these pests for you.

As more students will travel and study internationally the risk for bedbug infestations will also increase. Bed bugs have been found in hotels, motels, hospitals, movie theaters, long term care facilities, thrift stores, flea markets, schools (colleges and universities), and vacation homes.

In a recent study of early infestations, bed bugs were found to be on the actual bed and frames approximately 70% of the time while approximately 23% of bed bugs moved away from the bed into nearby dressers, side tables, curtains, that were still within 5 feet of the bed, and 7% of bed bugs moved beyond five feet of the bed into items such as entertainment centers and dressers. Since most bed bugs stay on or near your bed it is so IMPORTANT that you not start sleeping on your couch, recliner, or other room as the pest will just set up in these areas and make the tasks of removing them that much harder. (I know you will be tempted to get the heck out of that room and sleep somewhere else, if you are so freaked out that you must sleep somewhere else go sleep on your porch, balcony, a hammock, or a throw-away tent and dont forget the mosquito spray.)

Bed Bug Treatment & Prevention

Even if youre not afraid of bugs, no one is comfortable with hundreds of little bugs crawling all over them feeding on their blood while they sleep. However, when you have a bed bug infestation, this is exactly what you could be dealing with. As threatening and creepy as this sounds, you dont have to suffer. Once you can recognize what to look for in a bed bug infestation, it is easier to implement offensive and preventative measures.

Bed bugs are very small, the adults growing to 45 mm in length and 1.53 mm wide. They are round or oval-shaped and typically reddish-brown or light brown. The bugs are named after their typical habitat of human homes, specifically near beds or anywhere else in a home that humans regularly sleep. As nocturnal insects, they wait for the humans to fall asleep and then actively search for their meal, mostly between the hours of 2 AM and 5 AM. Bed bugs are capable of feeding during the day without being detected, but typically they are only active at night...

These crafty little creatures take great caution in trying to stay hidden in a warm crevice. One common place to find them is in the creases of your mattress or any cracks in your headboard. Look in between mattresses, inspect box springs for holes to ensure they have not created a home inside it, and check the nooks and crannies where the wall and carpet meets. Bed bugs may also settle into your luggage or near a pets typical resting spot. Youll also want to check couches and pull out beds; anywhere someone may have slept could hold a bed bug colony. Other signs of bed bugs to be on the lookout for include bed bug feces, eggs, or blood stains on sheets from feeding.

After finding where all of the bed bugs are, the next step is to get rid of them. Anything that can be washed should be washed in very hot water, at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit, and soap. This includes sheets, blankets, pet bedding, clothing, couch cushions if possible, etc. Put everything that was washed through the dryer to treat it one more time with high heat. Also, steam clean your carpets and other furniture with very hot water.

Use our Bed Bug Patrol Spray and Organic Crawling Insect Control Dust to take care of any bugs left standing. Spray Bug Patrol and apply Insect Control Dust on wall voids, under baseboards, and in cracks and crevices, soaking the areas thoroughly. Place bed bug traps strategically through the house, and consider encasing your mattresses in mattress covers. Using mattress covers contains any bed bugs still living in the mattress inside without food and keeps any more bed bugs from getting into the mattress.
