Bed Bug: Elimination, Description of Bed Bugs, Common Bedbug

Bed bug elimination is best accomplished by first understanding the pest that has invaded your home - especially where bedbugs hide. Knowing bed bug habits and description of bedbugs will give you knowledge needed when choosing and applying the best control products.

Basic Bed Bug Control Information

The most common mistake made when controlling bed bugs: not knowing which type of insecticide to use in the correct areas. Most of the people who read this article will skip the most important step: dusting cracks and crevices with an insecticide dust. Crack and crevice work is a little more time-consuming than spraying, which is why some people choose to skip this step. Just as in controlling ticks, you must apply a professional insecticide dust into tiny cracks and crevices where the targeted pest hides. Many household pests can be controlled or prevented by a simple insecticide bug spray on baseboards and exterior surfaces of the home. This is not the case when dealing with an infestation of bed bugs.

Once bed bugs have invaded your home, they can be a little tough to eliminate. Their habits, size and their hardy nature help contribute to their persistence in homes that they have invaded.

An adult bed bug is not very large; it is usually about 1/4 an inch long. The small body size helps this pest to hide in areas that make their elimination difficult. The bed bug nymph succumbs to pest control products easier than their adult counterparts but (just like adults) can go for long periods without food. Blood taken from humans is the preferred food of young and adult common bed bugs.

There are other species of bed bugs (besides the common bed bug) that prefer other hosts (bats, swallows, pigeons, starlings, etc.) but these blood feeding pests will also feed on humans if given the opportunity.

A bed bug's secretive nature makes it a difficult pest to identify and eliminate. These insects are not seen crawling around in the daylight hours where they would be easily identified. They hide in various areas during the day and come out at quiet times of the night to feed on human blood. Since they usually wait for their host to go to sleep, the host does not see or feel their presence. The obvious sign that a bed bug infestation is in a room is the presence of small drops of blood on sheets and pillows or pillow cases.

Bed Bug Elimination Bed Bug Pest Control Products

Bed bug elimination procedures, methods and products closely resemble those used for indoor tick elimination, due to their size, harborage areas and habits. Thorough inspection of the premises will save you time and money. These tiny bugs can be found in any small crack in proximity to where humans rest or sleep. These cracks and crevices are generally behind and beneath baseboards, beneath area rugs, between carpeting and walls, in power areas of appliances or even in the folds of curtains and drapes in the infested room. A thorough vacuuming of cracks, crevices and other areas where bed bugs hide is an essential part of an integrated pest management program targeting this particular pest. A combination of odorless insecticide spray and insecticide dust is needed to eliminate bed bug populations with special attention given to dusting all bug hiding places. Once mattresses and box spring setups have been thoroughly cleaned and (if necessary) treated with an odorless dust, plastic covers on the mattresses will help keep bugs in as well as keep others out.

A general purpose spray can be used on carpets, furniture and baseboards to help cut back on some of the population but the most important pest control tool you can use is an insecticide dust. Many pest control service technicians are now using premium fogging solutions in addition to other suggested pest management procedures for bed bug control. When fogging with a cold fogger is required for stubborn or re-occurring bed bug infestations, Shockwave Fogging is giving best fog results. Shockwave Fogging contains a high amount of natural pyrethrins (1.00%) and also contains an IGR. Fogging is rarely considered to be great controller of pests when used alone. Only use a fog when a very fast kill of existing bugs is needed. Fogging mainly kills exposed bugs that are not hiding in cracks or crevices. With the addition of Pyriproxyfen IGR, Shockwave Fogging does give an extra residual effect. Elimination of a bed bug infestation takes some patience. These pests live in tiny cracks that are sometimes difficult to reach with pest control products and they can live a longer time without food than can other blood feeding bugs such as fleas. Apply your spray to baseboards, carpets, flooring, throw rugs, area rugs or other areas where bed bugs might crawl at night. This insecticide will also kill spiders, fleas, ticks, ants and other household pests. After allowing your pesticide spray solution to thoroughly dry, you may now begin the important application of dust. Any area of possible bed bug harborage (especially those areas where your spray cannot reach) should be treated with Drione Dust.

Bed Bug Infestation Cases on the Rise. HUD Tough on Housing Authorities To Meet Requirements

Durham, NC (PRWEB) December 11, 2014

Complaints about bed bugs have been cropping up from every place in the country. Adam Witt, the acting Vice President in Witt Pest Management, Pittsburg presented his observations about monitoring apartments and treating the parasite around the Washington Country Housing Authoritys Crumrine Tower that is located on South Franklin Street* . The 60-storeyed tower houses around 50 residents in 40 units. Witt said that the whole apartment including hallways and common areas will be inspected and monitoring devices will be placed, if warranted and 15 units were treated in the process.

Since October, an amount of $16000 was paid by the housing authorities to the Witts firm so that the bugs were eradicated. However, they reoccurred with sporadic outbreaks in the establishment. Despite associated with the word, bed, the critters sized, shaped and colored like your average apple seed can infest furniture, wall hangings, sofas, electrical appliances and receptacles alike. They dont fly and lurk on a person or furniture, only to come out to feed on human or animal blood.

Last week, it was reported by the Journal News that the Department of Social Service came to know about bed bugs infestation in the Medicaid unit in Building L at Dr. Robert L* . Yeager Health Complex, Ramapo. In fact, dozens of chairs we so badly infested that they had to be replaced. Ramapo County executive Ed Day said on his Facebook page, The Department of Social Services replaced a lot more than merely chairs, and did to respond immediately to health and safety issues that could affect citizens and employees alike.*

Problems like this have been arising on and off, from different parts of the country. Thus, HUD had released two notices and much written information on this issue. It is imperative thus, to meet all the HUD requirements so as to control the problem of bed bug infestation.

With an aim to aid this serious problem that is increasingly becoming commonplace throughout HUD-insured multifamily and assisted housing communities in the country, AudioSolutionz, countrys leading source of business enhancing information, would be conducting a session on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 with expert speaker Debbie Hixon to help attendees carry out all the HUD requirements. Shelter seeks funds to help combat lingering bed bug infestation

A local homeless outreach center is mounting a capital campaign aimed at securing grant funds to help mitigate lingering problems caused by Cimex lectularius, commonly known as the bed bug.

Lighthouse Outreach Center Director Errol Hada told the Examiner-Enterprise on Friday the center had recently been fumigated and that the issue is being addressed weekly at the shelter. The newspaper had received several complaints about the issue in recent weeks.

We had a problem about a month ago, Hada said. There are some still but we have it under control.

The Lighthouse Outreach Center focuses on helping homeless citizens become employed and procure housing of their own.

We are looking to get a grant of donations that will help us replace all the wooden beds in the mens dorm with steel beds and enable us to get a commercial washer and drier.

According to Hada, wooden bed frames are a haven for bed bugs in that the bugs get in the crevices of the wood making them difficult to exterminate. He says the washer and drier that the center currently has does not get hot enough to kill all the insects.

According to Wikipedia, bedbugs are parasitic insects of the cimicid family that feed exclusively on blood. Secondary issues from bed bug infestations include skin rashes, psychological effects and allergic symptoms and have reportedly increased in prevalence since 1995, likely due to pesticide resistance.

According to Hada, the Lighthouse is currently at capacity with about 40 men staying in the shelter.

We have even have four cots down right now, he said. There are about 20 more married couples and single women and 10 children.

More accommodations for the those in need are currently in the works through a local non-profit organization recently formed to help area homeless Family Promise of Washington County.

The DMV area is struggling with an ever-growing bed bug problem. Environmental Heat Solutions offers a solid solution.

Bed bugs are on the rise in Washington, D.C., and the surrounding states of Virginia and Maryland. As of 2012, D.C. ranked number six on a list of the most infested cities in the country. While still not as bad as New York City, D.C.s problem seems to be growing.

Getting rid of bed bugs has become increasingly difficult for a variety of reasons, according to a representative from Environmental Heat Solutions. Over-the-counter solutions to bed bugs may once have been effective, but studies show they do not work today. This is likely a result of bed bugs high ability to develop resistance to pesticides. Additionally, the pest is notoriously difficult to eradicate as a result of its propensity to hide in hard to reach places. Bed bugs can also remain dormant without feeding for a very long time; some claim an infested mattress can be dangerous for well over a year.

Bed bugs have also become highly resistant to chemicals used by professional exterminators. This is why Environmental Heat Solutions offers a different approach to eliminating an infestation: bed bug heat treatment. By evenly raising the temperature in someones home to 120 degrees, our heat treatments kill all adult and juvenile bed bugs, as well as their eggs, said a representative from Environmental Heat Solutions.

Our treatments are safer and more effective than pesticide treatments, said the spokesperson. Heat treatment for bed bugs only takes a few hours and completely eliminates any infestation. It is also completely safe for humans, as it uses no chemicals.

A bed bug infestation is easiest to eliminate if its caught early. We also offer canine detection services to determine if an infestation is present, said the spokesperson.

Bed bugs are a problem, but they dont have to be a disaster, the spokesperson said. At Environmental Heat Solutions, we prioritize getting people back to their normal lives as quickly as possible, with no more worrying about bed bugs.
