A bed bug life cycle begin as a very small but visible egg. Their eggs grow only 1-1/2mm long and look like rice grains. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis, egg, nymph and adult. Unlike mites and moths, for instance, the life cycle of bed bugs have no larvae stage.

Adult females can lay a maximum of five eggs per day when conditions are favourable. But when temperature are cold, they only produce five a week.

These bloodsucking insects can survive a year without a food source present. So when an infested room is left unoccupied for a few weeks or months, females will lay no eggs at all. A regular blood meal must be available for egg development.

The insect, when the egg hatches, becomes a first instar nymph. A bed bug life cycle consist of five instar stages and then adulthood is reached.Typically this process takes aboutfortydays to complete.

One important things must happen each time a nymph (baby bed bug) progresses through these stages. You have guessed it!They must bite you and drink your blood.

They also leave their skin behind each and every time they molt. This together with egg shells and faeces are what cause people suffering from allergy when in bed.

So if you want to find out if you got bed bugs, there are three things you must look out for. Eggs, skin and the bug itself. The easiest symptom to spot is arguably theirfaecalmatter.

I've got a separate page forhow often bedbugs will feedon us.

Once the insect progressed through 5 stages they become a 5 1/2mm long adult, they repeatedly bite and lay eggs. These vampires can drink allot of blood considering their size. Their bodies expand two millimetres in length when fed. If all bed bug life cycle stages are not fully eradicated, the infestation just becomes worst and worst.
