Being aware of the bed bug life cycle can help you in your efforts to combat bed bugs at home or on holidays.

When you suspect the presence of bed bugs at home or in a hotel room, you should firstly examine your mattress and bedding for signs of these wingless, reddish-brown insects. As part of the bed bug life cycle, bed bugs shed their outer shell leaving telltale signs of a bed bugs infestation.

Look for bed bug eggs as well as the bed bugs themselves, but keep in mind that bed bugs vary in size depending on where theyre at in their bed bug life cycle.

Bed bug eggs are shorter than a millimetre in length, so it can be very difficult to see them with the naked eye. Theyre white and grain-like in appearance, about the same size as a couple of flecks of salt, and theyre laid where the bed bugs harbour.

Dont be fooled by their size: baby bed bugs can and will bite you just as easily as their adult counterparts do.

When bed bug eggs hatch, baby bed bugs, also known as nymphs, will pass through five distinct life stages before maturing to adulthood.

Nymphs need one blood meal in order to molt to the next life stage, becoming larger with each stage. The full bed bug life-cycle process can take as little as 5 weeks and as long as 4-6 months.

When theyve reached adulthood, bed bugs feed more frequently, usually about every 10 days. This is bad news for those of us who are unlucky enough to experience a bed bug infestation at home or on holidays.

The adult life span is anywhere from 4-6 months to 18 months, so these little critters live for a very long life. Females can lay between 1 and 5 eggs each day one of the reasons why these bugs can be so difficult to get rid of.

Its very easy to get rid of bed bugs without hiring an expensive pest controller who spray toxic chemicals throughout your home. Try our organic DIY Bed Bug Killer powder, for more information click here

Fleas are tiny black colored bugs which can cause painful bites. It is difficult to control them without the help of professional team. You are more prone to flea bites if you have pets at home than others. These tiny black or brownish insects about 1/12 inches long but can jump easily to any height and are capable of reproducing in no time. They mainly live on cats and dogs in your home and can easily bite you without your knowledge.

Flea bites can be itchy and painful and you may have signs of red spots on the affected skin, rashes, and swelling around the bite. Flea bites can cause distinctive reddish halo in the site. Apart from these problems fleas can easily transmit diseases like plaque and typhus. Often, your legs and ankles are vulnerable places of flea bites apart from wrist, armpits and groin.

If you observe your dogs/cats licking and scratching a lot, it could be due to flea bites. Mild flea bites can be managed with home remedies like Aloe Vera gel, ointments and ice packs but severe forms have to be treated medically if hives are formed in the skin. It is true that fleas are able to store volumes of blood measuring about 15 times of their weight.

When compared with fleas, bed bugs would not have wings and both are tiny oval shaped insects. Color of both bed bugs and fleas are of brownish black or reddish black. Bed bugs feed on humans and animals like that of fleas. The symptoms of flea bites and bed bug bites are similar. Bites of both these insects would produce swelling on the skin with tiny red spot on the affected site. It can also cause hives and blisters in severe cases. Like fleas, areas like arms, legs and face and other exposed parts of body, are highly vulnerable for bites of bed bugs.

Symptoms :

Both fleabites and bed bug bites have similar symptoms of itchy feeling and tiny red blisters on the skin.

Flea bites vs. bed bug bites knowing the difference can help you know what has infested your house. Most insect bites can be itchy and produce mostly similar symptoms. Yet, if you know how to tell the difference between flea bites and bed bug bites, you can get rid of them faster. Here are pictures and a comparison of bed bug bites vs. flea bites.

Flea bites and bedbug bites are caused by two different insects as are their obvious names. Although they are caused by different insects, they both manifest themselves on the skin in the same way.

They cause the skin to be itchy, and the area around the bite may be very sore, feel painful and you may experience some redness too.

These similarities notwithstanding, one has to be careful to differentiate them in order for them to be properly treated.

This article will show you how to differentiate them, outline the various symptoms and pictures for easy identification.

What do insect bites look like? Flea bite vs. bed bug bites pictures, images and illustrations shown below will help you distinguish the two. Compare the pictures with your symptoms. They can help you if they are flea bite marks or bed bug bite bumps.

Heres a photo of bed bug bites:

Below is a photo of flea bites.

If you have ever found bite marks on any part of your body then you must have wondered whether they had been caused by fleas or from bedbugs. It may be somewhat difficult to differentiate between the two but there are some distinguishing features which can help you identify the two.

Sand flea are tiny insects which feed on their hosts blood. Bites from fleas can be easily confused with bites from ants, spiders and may be hard to distinguish. There are two types of sand flea bites.

The first one looks like a mosquito bite and happens when the fleas suck your blood and then moves on to another host. The second one is a little worse and is caused by breeding female sand fleas.

However, they leave clues that would help one easily determine the cause.

The foremost way of telling whether a bite on your body has been caused by a flea is to check on the bite mark. Fleas leave a bite with a centre puncture mark.

A flea bite also manifests as a red swollen mark and often appears in clusters. The skin might also have blisters near the bite mark. Fleas also bite around the legs, feet, waist and armpits.

Bedbugs are tiny insects which also nourish themselves using the blood they draw from the bodies of humans.

Blood spots found on ones sheets, bites and the presence of bed bug feces and cast skins are some of the indications of a bed bug infestation. Bites are commonly found on the parts of the body that are more likely to be exposed to bed bugs during sleep the hands, neck, face, shoulders, legs and arms.

While not always the case, bed bug bites are often grouped together in a small area and at times may occur in a line or a zigzag pattern. Bites normally look like small, flat or raised areas that may become inflamed, itchy, red or blistered. Bed bug bite reactions dont always appear immediately after youre bitten and may take a few days to begin causing symptoms. However, not everyone reacts to bed bug bites in the same manner.

The size of bed bug bites varies with a number of different factors. Bed bugs inject an anti-coagulant along with their saliva when they pierce the skin to take a blood meal. This anti-coagulant is mostly responsible for how a person reacts to the bite and determines the size of the bugs bite.

Since people will have various sensitivities to the bed bugs bite, the size of the bite will vary, as well. Another factor that influences the size of a bed bug reaction is the number of times a person is bitten. Bite reactions of people bitten many times are also variable, and their response may be either more or less intense as the number of bites increases.

They prefer to congregate around beds and bed frames. The bites manifest themselves as small hard swollen/inflamed lumps that almost always appear in lines.

The bites always appear on the hands, neck and arms and are periodic.

Flea bites on humans can also be seen on the arms, after you have held your pet. The reason why the bugs attack the legs is that they live in carpets, rugs, fleece throws put near the floor and whatever else is close to the floor.

Here are the most common symptoms of flea bites:

The symptoms of a bedbug bite are usually almost non-existent, they are very mild in nature and often individuals will not experience any symptoms at all. Bedbug bites can occur on any exposed part of the body, with the face, neck, arms, and hands being areas commonly affected. Here are symptoms to help you with flea bites vs. bed bug bites comparison.

Initially, a victim may detect a slight burning sensation. The burning area then develops red bumps, known as papules or wheals (rash). In extreme cases, bites may swell dramatically or turn into blister-like skin inflammations.

If you develop a rash after being bitten by a bed bug, avoid scratching the affected area. If the rash persists or becomes infected, contact a medical professional immediately.

A chigger bite is not easily noticeable. Chiggers bite areas that are in close contact with vegetation. The symptoms usually manifest two to three hours after they have caused the biting. This is after they have injected their digestive enzymes into your skin.

Symptoms include of chigger bites that you can compare with those of flea bites and bed bug bites include:

The difference between these bites and what distinguishes the bedbug and flea bites from chigger bites is that the chiggers usually bite one where the skin typically folds or areas where clothes fit tightly.

Scabies infections are caused by tiny parasites. These parasites make their way into ones skin to lay eggs. The mites generally die off after a few weeks, but they continue to cause discomfort to humans, particularly if the source is left untreated. The symptoms of scabies include:

Scabies can also be spread through human contact with a person who is infected.

Since bed bug bites can turn out to be itchy and red, you need a few remedies to help get rid of the itch fast. Soothing and treating bed bug bites and flea bites helps avoid scratching that can cause scars and dark marks on skin. Here is a quick home remedy with baking soda.

You can also use the get of the leaves of the Aloe Vera plant. Simply trim a tip and apply on the bite area.

First of all, stop scratching your bites! I know its difficult but if you continue doing so, the bites can get infected with bacteria that will enter your bloodstream and cause havoc on your body. Save yourself from nasty infections by leaving the area alone.

World

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. [+]

The world is the planet Earth and all life upon it, including human civilization.[1] In a philosophical context, the "world" is the whole of the physical Universe, or an ontological world (the "world" of an individual). In a theological context, the world is the material or the profane sphere, as opposed to the celestial, spiritual, transcendent or sacred spheres. "End of the world" scenarios refer to the end of human history, often in religious contexts.

The history of the world is commonly understood as spanning the major geopolitical developments of about five millennia, from the first civilizations to the present. In terms such as world religion, world language, world government, and world war, the term world suggests an international or intercontinental scope without necessarily implying participation of every part of the world.

The world population is the sum of all human populations at any time; similarly, the world economy is the sum of the economies of all societies or countries, especially in the context of globalization. Terms such as "world championship", "gross world product", and "world flags" imply the sum or combination of all sovereign states.

The English word world comes from the Old English weorold (-uld), weorld, worold (-uld, -eld), a compound of wer "man" and eld "age," which thus means roughly "Age of Man."[2] The Old English is a reflex of the Common Germanic *wira-aliz, also reflected in Old Saxon werold, Old Dutch werilt, Old High German weralt, Old Frisian warld and Old Norse verld (whence the Icelandic verld).[3]

The corresponding word in Latin is mundus, literally "clean, elegant", itself a loan translation of Greek cosmos "orderly arrangement." While the Germanic word thus reflects a mythological notion of a "domain of Man" (compare Midgard), presumably as opposed to the divine sphere on the one hand and the chthonic sphere of the underworld on the other, the Greco-Latin term expresses a notion of creation as an act of establishing order out of chaos.

"World" distinguishes the entire planet or population from any particular country or region: world affairs pertain not just to one place but to the whole world, and world history is a field of history that examines events from a global (rather than a national or a regional) perspective. Earth, on the other hand, refers to the planet as a physical entity, and distinguishes it from other planets and physical objects.

"World" was also classically used to mean the material universe, or the cosmos: "The worlde is an apte frame of heauen and earthe, and all other naturall thinges contained in them."[4] The earth was often described as "the center of the world".[5]

The term can also be used attributively, to mean "global", or "relating to the whole world", forming usages such as world community or world canonical texts.[6]

By extension, a world may refer to any planet or heavenly body, especially when it is thought of as inhabited, especially in the context of science fiction or futurology.

World, in its original sense, when qualified, can also refer to a particular domain of human experience.

In philosophy, the term world has several possible meanings. In some contexts, it refers to everything that makes up reality or the physical universe. In others, it can mean have a specific ontological sense (see world disclosure). While clarifying the concept of world has arguably always been among the basic tasks of Western philosophy, this theme appears to have been raised explicitly only at the start of the twentieth century[7] and has been the subject of continuous debate. The question of what the world is has by no means been settled.

The traditional interpretation of Parmenides' work is that he argued that the everyday perception of reality of the physical world (as described in doxa) is mistaken, and that the reality of the world is 'One Being' (as described in aletheia): an unchanging, ungenerated, indestructible whole.

In his Allegory of the Cave, Plato distinguishes between forms and ideas and imagines two distinct worlds: the sensible world and the intelligible world.

In Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's philosophy of history, the expression Weltgeschichte ist Weltgericht (World History is a tribunal that judges the World) is used to assert the view that History is what judges men, their actions and their opinions. Science is born from the desire to transform the World in relation to Man; its final end is technical application.

The World as Will and Representation is the central work of Arthur Schopenhauer. Schopenhauer saw the human will as our one window to the world behind the representation; the Kantian thing-in-itself. He believed, therefore, that we could gain knowledge about the thing-in-itself, something Kant said was impossible, since the rest of the relationship between representation and thing-in-itself could be understood by analogy to the relationship between human will and human body.

Two definitions that were both put forward in the 1920s, however, suggest the range of available opinion. "The world is everything that is the case," wrote Ludwig Wittgenstein in his influential Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, first published in 1921.[8] This definition would serve as the basis of logical positivism, with its assumption that there is exactly one world, consisting of the totality of facts, regardless of the interpretations that individual people may make of them.

Martin Heidegger, meanwhile, argued that "the surrounding world is different for each of us, and notwithstanding that we move about in a common world".[9] The world, for Heidegger, was that into which we are always already "thrown" and with which we, as beings-in-the-world, must come to terms. His conception of "world disclosure" was most notably elaborated in his 1927 work Being and Time.

In response, Sigmund Freud proposed that we do not move about in a common world, but a common thought process. He believed that all the actions of a person are motivated by one thing: lust. This led to numerous theories about reactionary consciousness.

Some philosophers, often inspired by David Lewis, argue that metaphysical concepts such as possibility, probability, and necessity are best analyzed by comparing the world to a range of possible worlds; a view commonly known as modal realism.

Mythological cosmologies often depict the world as centered on an axis mundi and delimited by a boundary such as a world ocean, a world serpent or similar. In some religions, worldliness (also called carnality[citation needed]) is that which relates to this world as opposed to other worlds or realms.

In Buddhism, the world means society, as distinct from the monastery. It refers to the material world, and to worldly gain such as wealth, reputation, jobs, and war. The spiritual world would be the path to enlightenment, and changes would be sought in what we could call the psychological realm.

In Christianity, the term often connotes the concept of the fallen and corrupt world order of human society, in contrast to the World to Come. The world is frequently cited alongside the flesh and the Devil as a source of temptation that Christians should flee. Monks speak of striving to be "in this world, but not of this world"as Jesus saidand the term "worldhood" has been distinguished from "monkhood", the former being the status of merchants, princes, and others who deal with "worldly" things.

This view is clearly expressed by king Alfred the Great of England (d. 899) in his famous Preface to the Cura Pastoralis:

"Therefore I command you to do as I believe you are willing to do, that you free yourself from worldly affairs (Old English: woruldinga) as often as you can, so that wherever you can establish that wisdom that God gave you, you establish it. Consider what punishments befell us in this world when we neither loved wisdom at all ourselves, nor transmitted it to other men; we had the name alone that we were Christians, and very few had the practices."

Although Hebrew and Greek words meaning "world" are used in Scripture with the normal variety of senses, many examples of its use in this particular sense can be found in the teachings of Jesus according to the Gospel of John, e.g. 7:7, 8:23, 12:25, 14:17, 15:18-19, 17:6-25, 18:36. For contrast, a relatively newer concept is Catholic imagination.

Contemptus mundi is the name given to the recognition that the world, in all its vanity, is nothing more than a futile attempt to hide from God by stifling our desire for the good and the holy.[10] This view has been criticized as a "pastoral of fear" by modern historian Jean Delumeau.[11]

During the Second Vatican Council, there was a novel attempt to develop a positive theological view of the World, which is illustrated by the pastoral optimism of the constitutions Gaudium et spes, Lumen gentium, Unitatis redintegratio and Dignitatis humanae.

In Eastern Christian monasticism or asceticism, the world of mankind is driven by passions. Therefore, the passions of the World are simply called "the world". Each of these passions are a link to the world of mankind or order of human society. Each of these passions must be overcome in order for a person to receive salvation (theosis). The process of theosis is a personal relationship with God. This understanding is taught within the works of ascetics like Evagrius Ponticus, and the most seminal ascetic works read most widely by Eastern Christians, the Philokalia and the Ladder of Divine Ascent (the works of Evagrius and John Climacus are also contained within the Philokalia). At the highest level of world transcendence is hesychasm which culminates into the Vision of God.

Orbis Catholicus is a Latin phrase meaning Catholic world, per the expression Urbi et Orbi, and refers to that area of Christendom under papal supremacy. It is somewhat similar to the phrases secular world, Jewish world and Islamic world.

Dunya derives from the root word "dana" that means to bring near. In that sense, "dunya" is "what is brought near".[12][pageneeded]

Queens is located furthest east of all of the New York City boroughs. In terms of land mass, Queens is the largest of all of the boroughs, but is second behind Brooklyn in terms of raw population. Before the turn of the century, Queens was actually originally a collection of small towns which were all located in Queens County. In 1898, the various cities in what is now known as New York came together to vote for consolidation. From this point forward, all of the cities in Queens came together and formed what is now known as the borough and county of Queens.

Queens was first officially formed in the late seventeenth century, and was one of the first twelve counties that originally comprised New York State. The name, Queens, refers to the reigning Queen of England during the time, Queen Catherine, who presided over Ireland, Scotland, and England. Nassau County was originally a part of Queens County, but the area now known as Nassau split off from Queens when New York City consolidated.

Queens is located on Long Island, just to the northeast of Brooklyn, which lies on the southwestern portion of the Island. To the Northeast of Queens is Nassau county.

The thing that really sets Queens apart from any other place on planet earth is its tremendous diversity. There are over two million people that live in Queens which have heritages from over one hundred countries around the globe. These immigrants and native-born Americans speak more than 130 unique languages. Every neighborhood in Queens has its own unique character, based upon the nationalities and cultures that live within it.

If Queens were its own city, it would be the fourth largest city in the United States. Only Brooklyn, L.A., and Chicago would be larger. The economy of Queens represents its immense size as well. Unlike Brooklyn, which relies mostly on the surrounding boroughs for employment, Queens has a huge economy all on its own. One of the central features of the Queens economy is its tremendous transportation industry, buoyed by two major New York City Airports.

Queens also has a very high percentage of small businesses, owing to the great diversity of the residents that live in the area. There are an almost unimaginable number of restaurants, cafes, shops, and bodegas which cater to the needs of pretty much each and every ethnic and cultural group that lives in the borough.

Queens also has a large variety of residential options, and each neighborhood and culture has taken to its own enclaves within the borough. In the areas of Queens closest to Manhattan, the residential housing comes mostly in the form of tall and sprawling apartment buildings. High rise apartments are the prominent form of housing in Ridgewood, Long Island City, and Astoria, for example.

As one travels further along Long Island toward Nassau County, however, the neighborhoods take on a much more suburban character, and these neighborhoods tend to have as much in common with neighboring Nassau County than they do with Manhattan and Brooklyn. More suburban neighborhoods include Bayside, Little Neck, and Douglaston.

As mentioned earlier, Queens is home to two out of the three international airports that operate in New York Citys airspace, LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International. The third airport which serves New York City is located in New Jersey, across the river from Staten Island. The two Queens Airports are some of the most highly utilized on earth, which leads the sky above Queens to be the busiest airspace in the United States.

Flushing Meadows The New York Mets play at this large and beautiful ballpark, and although the Yankees may get more respect, the Mets have a large contingent of fans in New York City, especially in Queens and Brooklyn. The Grand Slam Tennis Tournament, the US Open, is also played at Flushing Meadows.

Queens Museum of Art This Museum has one of the coolest displays in the entire city. Inside the museum, there is a full scale model of the entirety of New York City, all five boroughs, which covers over 9,000 square feet. The museum heavily caters to an international audience, providing a number of art exhibits from cultures all across Queens and the Globe.

Museum of the Moving Image This museum is dedicated to everything related to the art of the moving image. This applies not only to film, but to television and video games, along with any other form of artistic and popular expression associated with moving pictures.

The Best Bed Bug Exterminators in Staten Island (with Free …

Friday, May 18th, 2018

It all started when I began noticing red bumps all over my arms. I thought they were hives from using a new detergent, so I asked my boyfriend to change our sheets and that's when he told me the bad news, we had bed bugs. It was traumatizing to hear. We keep a very clean apartment and hadn't traveled anywhere in the last 3 months. I'm still uncertain of how we got them. Anyway, I called Orkin because I didn't know of anyone else. They charged me $90 to come out and tell me what I already knew. On top of that, they quoted me $1300 for the treatment and didn't even guarantee the results. I did some research and discovered Thumbtack, which sent me quotes from a couple professionals almost immediately. I chose to go with Terminators because of the abundance of positive reviews. Also, the quote was $800 cheaper than Orkin! They came out within a day and worked with my schedule. I wasn't there at the time, but my boyfriends had met Jerry (the professional who conducted the treatment) and said he was awesome. He came with two interns and had the whole apartment done in 2 hours and were extremely thorough. Once I got home from work, I thought I was going to have to evacuate for awhile but there was no chemical smell and I already saw the results working. I haven't seen any bugs since, except for the ones that I knew would be crawling out of their hiding spots to die. After the initial treatment, Jerry comes back for a follow up 2 weeks later. I am looking forward to this, it's so relieving to know the pests will be gone for good. I would 100% recommend this company to anyone. Awesome job, and thank you Jerry!

FAQ: advice on getting treatment to eliminate bed bugs

The following FAQ was written entirely by Sean, a Pest Control Operator and entomologist in Vancouver, and is posted with his permission. Check out his Bed Bug Resource [site no longer active, link removed]. Thanks Sean!

Advice on getting treatment to eliminate bed bugs, from a Pest Control Operator

I can not stress enough how important it is to do a bed bug treatment correctly right from the onset. The slighest misstep can literally make a solvable problem a nightmare.

All too often you get do it yourselfers that think they can do the job just as well as a licenced technician can. This is simply not the case 95% + of the time.

As I have said many times leave this one to the pros.

The trick is for the general public to decipher who the pros are in their area. I will not lie to you, there are good companies and bad companies. There are also good companies with some bad individuals.

Two things to watch out for; underpricing and overpricing. Ask them what the job breaks down to on an hourly basis per technician that they are sending (some companies use two techs per job). This puts all companies on equal footing for comparison.

Underpricing means you will get what you pay for; poor service and inexperience.

Overpricing means that the company likely does not want to do bed bug jobs. They price so high that they are looking to discourage people from hiring them. They just plain cant or do not want to do bed bug work.

Look for a company with middle of the road pricing. Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if they have received complaints recently. Ask the company to provide references from clients that have been satisfied with their bed bug work. Many companies will have letters of praise on hand.

Some other things to look for;

1) Do they offer a guarantee?2) If so, what does it entail?

Keep in mind that many companies will NOT offer guarantees to hotels or multiunit dwellings because the chance of reinfestation is too great. If you live in an apartment ask what their guarantee is for a freestanding home. This will give you an idea of how confident they are about their work.

3) Do they have liability insurance?4) If yes, how much does it cover? If no walk away.

5) Do they have dedicated bed bug technicians? Many companies are now forming bed bug task forces if you will. These companies will likely have more experience.

6) How long do they expect the treatment to last?A thorough bed bug treatment (inspection plus application) is going to take a minimum of two hours (based on a normal hotel sized room).

7) How many treatments does the price include? (Editors note: in order to have some confidence that they will eliminate bed bugs in your home, it should usually include at least two treatments, spaced about two weeks apart).

8) Ask the company how many treatments it will take to eliminate bed bugs in the home.If they say one walk away.If they say two-three they are being honest. If they say several (3+) they likely are not doing the job right.

The last thing is that people need to realize that they are going to need to be bait for the treatment to be most successful. They essentially need to carry on their routine of sleeping in the bed, etc. This will maximize the chance of the bed bugs coming in contact with the pesticides.

Update 11/2007:

This is what one PCO posted on the forums in this thread, in answer to the question of what traditional treatments entail:

BugologistMember

This is what you should look for (as a person knowledgable in the topic):

1. They dont rely solely on pesticides. Non-chemicals measures are a plus and they should use bed encasements or at least recommend them, vacuums and hopefully steam. Current research is showing tolerance and resistance to a lot of pesticides we have available so relying on them may be a mistake.2. Some sort of crack and crevice treatment, and hopefully a dust, is an absolute must, these bugs hide in cracks and crevices and if youre not getting to them youre not addressing the problem.3. Follow-up treatments. Having done lots and lots of jobs I almost never eliminate bed bugs in one treatment and depending on the conditions (infestation level, clutter, construction, etc) is will take 3 or 4 typically, maybe more.4. They address most if not the whole structure. If they just do the bedroom that has the known problem, or the bedrooms or just the couch its a mistake. These bugs distribute throughout the structure and you cant limit yourself to one area. The treatment should encompass the entire structure.

I could probably go on and on but these are the big ones. The rest is a personal decision.

Be sure to tell us what you know about the treatment used, how many times they came back, and how long your problem has been solved (or going on, as the case may be.) The 10 Worst US Cities For Bed Bugs – sleepzoo.com

Wednesday, March 7th, 2018

When you think about the city of Baltimore, what comes to mind? Crab cakes? The Wire? The harbor and history? Theres certainly a lot this Maryland city is known for, but recent numbers from pest control company Orkin may make people think of something else when they hear Charm City.

Orkin released their annual list of the Top 50 Bed Bug Cities, and for the second year in a row, Baltimore is on top. Washington, D.C. was right behind them, with Chicago in the three spot, Los Angeles at number 4, and Columbus, Ohio rounding out the top 5.

This list is based on the number of bed bug treatments the company performed in 2017, counting both commercial and residential buildings. Looking at the data, we can learn a few things. The little critters seem to prefer the East Coast/Midwest, and dont have a problem living in especially cold or warm climates.

As far as the top 50 overall goes, there were two newcomers: New Orleans and Flint, Michigan. Orlando fell off the list totally.

Heres a look at the top 10 cities for bed bugs in 2017

10: Dallas-Fort Worth9. San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose8. New York7. Detroit6. Cincinnati5. Columbus, Ohio4. LA3. Chicago2. Washington, D.C.1. Baltimore

While the cities on your list may have your skin tingling if you have a trip planned, dont let it stop you from going. There are a few tips you can try to help drastically reduce the chances of your luggage or clothing being infested. For starters, put your bags in the bathtub. Silly, I know, but the bugs cant climb the tubs slippery surface. Check the area around your bed and floor for tell-tale signs of bedbugs (tiny, ink-colored stains) and dont leave dirty laundry lying around on the floor, as thats a great way to transfer bed bugs back to your home.
